(BBC-US)   F1's Fernando Alonzo to Lewis Hamilton: I used to be with 'it', but then they changed what 'it' was. Now what I'm with isn't 'it' anymore and what's 'it' seems weird and scary. It'll happen to you   (bbc.com) divider line

Love Alonzo

As for HAM
Said before, will say again, he doesn't seem to care unless he has the dominant car, and his little snitfest in OZ about the team strategy was just sad

Example?  I have heard this before and I don't know what it means.

I think F1, kind of like wide receiver, is a position where you almost need to be a diva.

All the drivers are divas.  That's already a well established fact.  But in what way does Hamilton appear to not care about racing this season?  I'm going to need an example.  Just one will do.

I don't watch F1 so I have no idea (I keep just well enough informed to know who's good in a given year).

I'm just saying that divas will sometimes have diva behavior

Last few seasons Mercedes had the car to beat and Hamilton was in the drivers seat.  He is a great driver no doubt but as good as you are if your car isnt the best then you arent going to be getting pole, getting wins.

This year with the vehicle changes (that they knew were coming for the past 2 years was it) Mercedes is having some big issues with their car and due to that they arent doing so hot. Still usually getting in the top 10 so they are getting points but no wins and it is due to the issues they are having. Hamilton having been top dog for 7-8 years is now not in the best car and likely isn't trying as hard because he knows he isnt in the best car.

Whether it's gamesmanship or legitimate gripe, I've yet to see a race where he hasn't complained about the car, usually focusing on the tires. This attitude usually seems a preemptive excuse for losing when, in reality, the better driver usually had advantage that day.
Not to say there's nothing wrong with the car. Look at Ferrari this year versus last. Their focus was always on 2022. Merc may have made the adjustment to get Ham or Russell into the top four--they DID get five/six in Miami--but Lewis will still be the victim of engineering.

How do we know he's not trying hard?  He looks the same to me.

Starting pitcher in baseball, quarterback in professional football, etc. It's hard to get to the top if you didn't think you belonged there all along.
I already miss Kimi. His candid take on the new cars would be priceless.

>>> You cannot let up for a second in F1. He's fighting like hell to get to 5th place. That's all Mercedes has this year. But if he was mailing it in he'd be finishing 10th or 15th or DNF. George Russell is helping keep that focus

Replace one "second" with "one thousandth of second

Fitting, seeing that it was Alonso Lewis took 'It' from.

Bummed to hear we won't likely see him back at Indy. This is pretty classic...

It has been acknowledged that a lot of his radio calls are misdirection for the benefit of the other teams. More than a few times Lewis has complained his tyres are gone and then set fastest lap and powered on for another twenty laps and won the race.
Compared to Alonso's biatching about Honda engines at McLaren Lewis tyre comments are high praise.

And George is good, very good, but has benefitted a couple of times from safety car calls, like the last race.

/Makes up for him losing his certain win two years ago thanks to a safety car. Caused ironically from his car crashing when another driver was at the wheel.
