I think Miami will win again.

Horford back, Smart most likely back.

Derrick White out to witness a miracle emerge from his wife's vagina.

I'm hoping for an 8:45 tipoff so I have time to settle in after putting the little one to bed.

The question of the night...do I post 135 times?

I think this is showing up on Discussion but not Sports.

Everyone who wants my vote this fall should propose to make it law of the land that all NBA postseason games after the first round must be carried by TNT.  No excuse for conference finals being on ESPN.

I'd prefer the option to watch the local channel. Yes, homerism, etc. But I want the announcers focused on what the Celtics are doing well or not. Not what some guy on the other team said back in February about seafood.

I have been recording the local pre-, halftime and postgame shows and switching to those. I hate how the national broadcast spends five minutes on the current game then shifts to the other series and other fluff pieces.

Tucker opening the game with 5 points. Marcus Smart takes the first three (why?!!?). Jaylen Brown makes the next one .

I'd probably feel that way too if I had a home team.

I think we're being banished from Sports and resigned to Discussion because we had a Digital Underground thread last night.  Someone doesn't like the way we swing.

If that was the protocol the NHL thread would be the same way. 80% of the thread is people talking about what they had for dinner and making fun of the way a player pronounces the word "sandwich".

I like where this game is going.

Man, Spoelstra.  It's just on my mind tonight, for some reason, that the dude never gets enough credit.  Will probably never be CoY.

Count me as somebody who thought Spoelstra  needed to just stay out of the way until Lebron needed something.

Brown still a little shaky with the ball-handling

Me too, for a while.  Beginning to think I might've also underestimated Ty Lue (though not as much).

I've hesitated to watch the game with the surround sound on, but I can actually keep the volume down and still hear the announcers clearly because of the center channel.

I had to pause the game to talk to my lady. I'll try to catch up soon.

Foul and a great block simultaneously.  Hate when that happens.

"Only" 14 isn't terrible when a team is shooting this way.

shiat, I'm half an hour behind now. I hadn't heard from her all day. She's struggling in the hospital right now, but nothing unusual for her condition.

Maybe I'll catch up before the end of the game. It was nice to talk to my baby for so long.

I'm not at halftime, but here's what I got so far. Forgive if the beginning is reposts from before.

Strus, with two threes. Brown with a mid-range makes it 18-10 Heat.Brown still a little shaky with the ball-handling, but gets it out after falling down. The ball eventually finds Tatum for a three.Strus misses two threes, but the Heat get both rebounds! At least they end up falling out of bounds and turning it over.18-15, Tatum gets an offensive foul and DOESN'T complain to the refs. Sort of. Got a pretty good jab to Butler's chin, though.Brown is trying to do some damage. A little sloppy at times, but he'shiat some shots. Then Marcus gets a steal and is "fouled" by Herro. Smart makes both foul shots. Heh, ref is trying to say Herro got Smart in the head, but I didn't see that.Pritchard hits a three on the road! He might be getting over what plagued him in the previous series on the road. Celtics leadHaha, now the announcers are going back and forth on the foul by Herro, hitting Smart in the head...with his chest, as he was blocking the shot.Celtics are rolling now, 32-21after being down 18-8.Butler stops the bleeding with a three, but Brown answers with a three. Everything is going down for the Celtics.Still not much from Tatum. I know he can end up with 30 points, but you kind of want him to hit seven points per quarter, plus explode for 15 in one of the quarters. Unless the Heat are focusing just on him...in which case he should end up with 20 assists. He got two fouls, but the second one was near the end of the quarter.----Tatum comes out with a three to start the quarter as the shot clock expires. 38-24 Celtics. I love that they're making the threes, but I've said before that it's dangerous to play that way unless you recognize when the shots stop going down and play the other game that works for you. Which is inside-out until they over pursue on the perimeter and you can throw it back inside for an easy layup.Trade a couple baskets the Williams blocks a shot and Tatum brings it home for an easy layup. He's 4/4 in FG...so it's not that he's been bad, just hasn't had many chances.Smart doing smart things. Takes the ball away and gets it to Grant for what should have been an easy dunk. Foul is called. I'm gonna save these up for the inevitable bad call against the C's. Haha, again...Grant was hit in the head. And he was.Two traveling calls on the Heat.Pritchard had missed a wide open three a few minutes ago, but he  nails the next one. The funny part was Herro and Tucker were both up trying to block Tatum's three and when Tatum threw it to Pritchard Tucker lands and looks around totally confused.

And what did/do you think of Doc Rivers now?

2022-05-19 11:13:32 PM
Heat can go another 22-2 run and still not tie it up. But the C's aren't going to let that happen again. I'm sure of that. 72-45 to start the half and Smart steals the ball, but can't get it to go down..I wouldn't mind if they sat Smart down to baby his injury for a bit. Maybe just leave him out there for the first few minutes of the third to make sure the Heat don't get any life.Celtics playing awesome defense, but they're still giving up offensive rebounds. And of course the color guy says exactly that. I could have been a color guy. My dad taught me all that when we watched sports together. Sometimes I'd ask him a question about what happened in the game and he'd say, "Well if you shut up for a minute, they just explained it." Good times.Celtics not slowing down...pushing a 30 point lead. Well until the Heat hit a three. But the Heat bench guys already  defeated.Smart hits a three...I think he's taken three and missed one.I am seeing zero complaints to the refs by the C's players.Wow....LATE foul when I thought it was a near block. C's call timeout because the Heat are chipping away. Almost have the lead down to 20 LOL.Too early to try running down the clock. Just keep playing your game. Get some threes, some easy layups and mix in a tough shot or two. Celtics still up by 25 and the Heat are not getting hot. Smart with a steal, but kind of sloppy and it's out of bounds. Heat get it back with full shot clock. So let's go back to my thing with teams with a big lead. The team that's ahead will let the other team sort of make a run, then they'll make 2-3 baskets in a row to push the lead back. Celtics need to do that. And they have lots of times this year.C's a little sloppy and missing shots. Butler is a winner. Not sure when that happened. Celtics cushion shrinking. Jaylen with four fouls...get somebody else in there to take the next couple fouls.Herro comes in during Tatums foul shots...blanket Herro without ignoring Butler.Celtics toying with the Heat now...Spoelstra calls timeout. Turnover out of the timeout...a common thing with the Celtics in game 1.Heat chipping away, but C's in the bonus and they extend the lead to 24 after Smart hits a three.Smart is feeling it, but misses. I'll say again...don't keep shooting if they're not going down, even if you made your first three or four.Tatum is doing what he should do. His final numbers will suffer because they'll rest him for a good chunk of the fourth quarter. C's also hitting their free throws for a change.C's way up 96-69. Quarter is basically over. Heat will hit a couple FTs, the C's will try to get a last second three, but no.They have their full Voltron. The defense is totally different with Horford and Smart in there. Smart is amazing. Horford is just doing what he does.-----------Smart was like a #6  pick in that draft. It only took six-seven years to show stuff on both sides, but he was totally worth it.Brown is trying like hell to play good. I wish he'd pay more attention to his ball control, but he'shiatting shots and the Celtics can't do anything wrong, right now. Thirty point lead. Announcers sound surprised, but I'm not. Yes, they could have struggled and that wouldn't have surprised me either. But they learn from their losses. You have to change your attack constantly to beat this C's defense. Try to get a switch in your favor, or hit some contested shots, or try to get t
hem running around. It's hard to confuse the C's defense when they have all their guys. This game is over halfway through the 4th. No way the Heat are scoring 110 and holding the Celtics to 0 points from the rest of the game.Is Smart working on his shots? We love him when he's draining threes and hate him when he's chucking up threes and missing them. If he's working hard on practicing his shooting maybe this is his game now. Fans headed for the exits. The Celtics should put all bench players in. Smart doesn't need to be out there now.The Heat aren't scoring 116 against anybody  in this amount of time. And AGAIN the announcers repeating what I said. Smart doesn't need to be out there

Ooh...winner of game 3 when series is tied wins series 75% of the time.

Those stats ain't happening right now. They don't tell the whole story, Was one team missing a guy for one of the first two games? Did the home team win game 1 or game 2? Etc

When they have all their players. But Rob Williams can get hurt. Marcus Smart is hurt, but can play through a lot. The weird rules of Covid may bite Al Horford again and maybe Jaylen Brown.

Oh, I guess there was an NBA thread after all.  Some game thoughts.

I was a bit saddened that the finale score wasn't 140-90,

I watched most of the game on mute.  Van Gundy adds nothing, and his whiny voice is annoying.  Such gems, as "what a great pass, what great vision!"  When a guy makes the easiest unopposed pass to an undefended player.  Seriously?

Was nice to have the team more or less whole.  In that vein, why was Smart playing 40 minutes in a blowout, with all his various injuries, he should have got the second half off.

Was nice to see the arena empty out in the second half.  That said, I'm impressed with the fans who didn't bail in the second quarter.

The third quarter was a tiny bit frustrating, but I decided to look at it, as they only made up 5ish points in a whole quarter... then the Celts finished strong and put it back to 25.

I'm all kinds of thrilled to watch the Celts able to drive to the basket again, Milwaukee just dominated in the paint.

C's are 9-4 in the postseason. 5-2 on the road. They have to be missing starters to lose enough games to win it all.
