I think I was wedged uncomfortably between my mother's intestines, kidney, and bladder at the time.

I was almost 2 years old, so probably working my shift at the coal mine.

Pooping in a diaper, napping, and crying a lot.

I was 28 years old.

It was on a Sunday at 11:32 am Eastern, so I was in pew 21, right-middle aisle section, listening to the fire-and-brimstone barker in my weekly forced 2-hours-hate that my family called "church".

I was 6 years old and concerned for my aunt and cousins who lived in Alabama because for some reason I thought it was near them.

Benevolent Misanthrope: It was on a Sunday at 11:32 am Eastern,

Ah, thank you.  I was at the car wash while my parents thought I was at church.  Stopped in at the end to bring home a brochure or what ever they were called.

My mom wanted a newspaper so I walked down to the neighborhood 7-11 and the cashier told me Mt St Helens erupted bigtime. I spent the rest of that day glued to the TV, expecting news that the ash would hit Seattle. As it turns out, only a light film of ash ever made it there, having gone all the way around the world to get there.

I think I was crawling around, pooping my pants as I was 9 months old. Also halfway across the planet.

Lewiston, Idaho. I was 5 and my older sisters were watching some men's body-building championship on TV. You see, in many places, there were only 3 channels or less sometimes...

We were apparently right downwind as we got dumped on pretty good for being a couple hundred miles away.

While I was here in MN the company I worked for was based outside Portland, OR and had manufacturing, IC chip fabrication, CRT assembly along with a location in Vancouver, WA and there were huge concerns on what all the ash might do.

Fortunately most of the ash cloud didn't come south into OR or the WA location but stories of coworkers who lived near the ash plume / fallout made for scary reading and stories years later.

I was helping a friend move. We went to a bar afterward and it was all over the TV over the bar.

If you were old enough to remember it, and ever get the chance to visit Mt. St. Helens I highly recommend it. Well worth the time, and if you get a chance to explore the Ape caves near they they are worth it as well.

About 100 miles north, it was cloud that day my friends.

Somewhere we still have some ash

I was 4, riding my C.H.iP.'s Big Wheel down a massive hill, on a public street without any safely gear and only 1/2 my Miller Genuine Draft left. Sad day all around.

I played CHiPs with my next door neighbor who always insisted he be Ponch and I had to be John.  Nobody wanted to be John.

I was a college freshman recovering from a hangover after a fraternity party. I remember turning on the news and seeing the footage on all 3 channels.

I was in south-central Montana.  The worst of the ash missed us but we still got some and nobody knew how safe it was to breathe.  I was about 7 at the time so when we all went out to play, they made us wear bandanas and masks for about a week just in case.  Kids today just can't imagine what we went through.

That was the end of 4th grade.  The first thing I remember about it was seeing it on my parent's crappy 19" TV that was centered in our living room.  We all ate around the TV that evening.

And you all got brain damage from oxygen depravation caused by the mask.  Your mom should have read more Facebook memes about it.

Southern Alberta. We got some colorful sunsets from it but no ash on the ground.

I know it's a little cheap to stop in a thread about "where were you a long time ago", but still; y'all are old.

Up in East Texas, I still remember that we even got volcanic ash there.  Looked like it does here; n Houston when we get Saharan dust

I was 85 years old at the time. I think I was eating some oatmeal in the rec room when it came on the tv...I knew ol' Harry R Truman. We went to high school together...what an asshole

For me it was Tuesday.

Drinking shots of tequila with the neighbor's wife who was so far out of my league. Eruption, erection, smeshection, whatever. She drank me under the table before noon. Which was a continuation from Saturday evening.

If you're not taking care of your wife, I'll find you a neighbor who will.

Probably riding around on my Sears Free Spirit MX bike.

I was on a software deployment, installing software for the Navy at Edzell, Scotland, and training the Navy Ops how to run it.

I remember wondering if my car - parked in long-term parking at Dulles airport in DC - would be covered in ash when I got home.

In 4th grade, looking forward to summer vacation. Then I spent the summer reading National Geographic articles about the volcano and watching really cool sunsets.

Same, except I was "employed" at a sugar factory.

There were people who didn't want to listen to scientists then, either. Thankfully those people only killed themselves with their idiocy.

I was either recovering from bar hopping the night before or heading over to a theater to work lights for a Sunday matinee.  The 1980s are pretty much a drunken blackout.

Bougainville Island, which has 2 active volcanoes. Moved there from San Fransisco.

Was planning a fishing trip near Kieta harbour.

Church and then home.  We got a trace dusting of ash; most of it went to the northeast.  I was soon to be done with high school in another week or two.
