So did the RWNJs.  It's why Trump still had a record # of votes* and still lost.  Just a few thousand more votes in the right states and Biden would've lost with a 7M+ surplus.

The whole system needs an overhaul.

In other words, you all lost control of the monster you created. You Republicans thought it was advantageous, for some damn reason, to cultivate the racists, the evangelical nutjobs, the survivalists, the gun nuts, the unemployed blue collar workers, the uneducated, and  the lonely basement misfits who turned out to be very malleable and not the least, the toxically angry

You thought that decade after decade you could rev them up, toy with their anger, misdirect their rage from the billionaires stealing their wages and exporting their jobs, point them in the direction of innocent people who did them no wrong and had nothing to do with their dire situation and make the rhetoric more extreme.

Now it's a beast that's out of control. The committed irrational crazies seeing a crusade ahead of them, replaced the cynical guys, like Mitch McConnell, who knew better but thought it was more cute to own the libs.

You were told in 2010 when you toyed with the tea party nuts that you were playing with fire. You didn't heed the warning. You thought you had every thing under control.

Now you don't have a party anymore. You have a bunch of full bore fascists who want blood.

You might want to join the Democrats and stop this before it becomes a full scale war.

How about 1) both and 2) making sure that those that are homeless that you have given money or other aid are registered to vote and that as many ways that are possible to assist in that are provided.

Now, I am sure one of our Fark Progressives will say that because of various voter suppression laws that won't help so of course they will dismiss that idea out of hand.

2022-05-18 5:01:00 PM
Yes, it is time to do something. The Democrats currently in office should do something about it now, instead of waiting for the election. It would get them more votes than any amount of whining about how much they need votes even though they haven't done anything.

Nah. I'd rather just give it to the homeless.

If you have the kind of money to throw away like you're suggesting, you'd be better off just using the money to arm the homeless.

More likely to get the society we want that way than the new feudalism the current system is driving us toward.

No bullets are necessary.  You just need folks in the streets.  Protesting.  Willing to be arrested.  Say what you want about the French... they know this, and their politics reflect it.

The greatest advancements in rights in America came about due to long and broad Protest movements.

OK. Take out the word "honest".

a handful of honest Republicans saved the country from a potentially disastrous constitutional crisis in 2020

This is still true. Pence specifically refused to contest the vote count. Raffensperger refused to recount or send alternate electors. Same goes for other states' secretaries of state and legislatures. Some Republicans specifically went on record calling the elections fair, and Trump's talk of a stolen election was a lie. Taken in aggregate, it was enough to kibosh Trump simply taking over.

I know it's become a meme at this point but it's exactly what you need to do. Vote. Then make sure your friends and neighbors are voting. Knock on their doors and remind them that it's voting day. Travel to nearby red states and canvass there.

Vote Harder.

red5ish: Over the last two decades or so, the big GOP donors realized that funding smaller, local elections, was cheaper and could, over time, be more effective than funding larger - statewide or national - elections.

At the same time that the Democratic party's increasingly senile and clueless leadership have double/triple/N-tuple-downed on winning big races in major urban areas/states, and leaving literally everything else about the Democratic party to either swim by by itself or wither on the vine. As the article states... Imagine if the $200M that were wasted against Traitor McConnell and Ladybugs had been spent electing local Democrats.

With the result that the GQP now controls 70% of the governors mansions, something like 2/3 of the statehouses, and has used gerrymandering to entrench itself to the point that historic Democratic majorities in votes can barely elect the narrowest majority in representatives in many places, including the US House. And the Democrats' bench is so shallow it's basically a picture on a piece of paper.

That isn't wrong.

If it wasn't for the Republican secstate in GA, and one Republican vote commissioner in MI who was successfully publicly shamed, to name the ones that immediately come to mind, 2020 would have been much, much worse.

What's this "partial" slave state business? If a nation allows slavery, it's a slave state. There's no requirement that 100% of the population are slave-owners. If even one person legally owns a slave, it's a slave state.

And the US is still a slave state, by the way.

I'd like to see the American Senate follow the lead of the UK House of Lords in becoming a much more ceremonial position.  The House of Lords can send bills back to the House of Commons for reconsideration, but they cannot veto or permanently block them.
