"everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should ..."

I assume the country music formula is gender agnostic.

Ft. Knox opened my eyes to a place where I can 100% understand why they let the Army bomb the ever-loving sh*t out of it.

KY is a pretty place outside of that hellhole... Louisville seemed nice, but pretty rough. Never been to Lexington, but people seem to like it.

They just have to stop voting for Paul and McConnell... until they do, they remain on the "must nuke" list if I become President.

It's a little different. You can only sing about lost love if it was lost because he cheated on you with That biatch. Otherwise, you're pretty much just locked into songs about how you're More Fun Than the Other Girls.

Hollywood has people from all over the nation, who show up there looking to make it in entertainment. It's a very self selected sample. But it is a better cross section of the whole of America than say... Kentuckians. They basically only represent one state. Don't get huge foot traffic from rest of nation.

"Real America" being described as a bunch of different areas with different types of people living in their own collective bubbles?

If you've ever been in a city that has "good" and "bad" parts or neighborhoods, or are even vaguely aware they exist, or are even vaguely aware of the different class differences between rich people, and folks who live in ghettos or trailer parks.... I can't fathom how this wasn't apparent. Maybe it's just because I moved a lot growing up, but this concept seems patently obvious to me.

Everyone knows either you're a man who's been left by his wife (possibly cheating) who stole his truck and dog, or you're a woman who's deeply in love or jaded about being cheated on.

The only time it's allowed to be gender agnostic is if they're talking about drinking or line dancing, or marrying their sisters/cousins.

Nope. Missouri is legendary for low tobacco taxes. Only 17 cents per pack.

I don't smoke, but when my boss was in Chicago I would bootleg multiple cartons up to her because Illinois cigarette taxes are over $2/pack.

She's here because Orlando Bloom is filming around New Castle in Henry County. That (and Marion County) are the roots of my family.  Coincidentally it is also the home of 1/2 of my wife's family.  Even more, back in the 19th century, two of our collateral branches lived right next door to each other.  We've driven all over the county the last few years looking at various landmarks associated with our families. We gone through Bethlehem and Pleasureville and New Castle where my great grandfather was a cop. The original branch of the family moved down from Pennsylvania Dutch country -- they were actually Swiss -- and landed at the Falls of the Ohio a few years before  Daniel Boone came into Kentucky from the mountain side of things. My wife's people came in after Boone and kept in a box somewhere is a family farm deed signed by Squire Boone, Daniel's brother.

Nowadays Henry County is notable for being the home of the noted  writer Wendall Berry (Port Royal). His farm, so famous in song and story, is just around a bend of the Kentucky River from Bethlehem where my family was from.

One droll event, we went looking for my family farm in Henry County early one Sunday morning and drove all over the eastern part of the county without finding anything. So, we stopped and asked at a rural grocery. They knew right where it was and in 2 minutes we were parked down the road from the farmhouse looking at the family cemetery, just beyond the wire fence, around 30 yards from the highway. Now, I carry the family name as a middle name. All we needed to do was go up to the house and introduce ourselves. I may have even met these people at family funerals over the years. We could see people going in and out of the house loading up the family car. I assume they were getting ready to go to church. After a couple of minutes of watching, we acceded to the obvious: genealogy is one helluva goofy, inexplicable hobby. No waaaaay were we going to be able to explain ourselves. So, we waited  and jumped the fence to look at the cemetery when we thought things were all clear. The stones were of Kentucky sandstone which weathers and fades like a cheap Polaroid. If there were 18th century stones in there, I couldn't tell.

Henry County is about as middling a rural country as you're likely to find. There's little to look at. Not particularly scenic or prosperous or poor. Small towns. The well-to-do farms are painted. The poor one's aren't. The hills are low and there's lots of trees.

N'aw, the industry is pretty actively hostile to women nowadays. Turn on a station and it's all a bro beer truck fish fest. Unless you find a country oldies station that plays Reba or Patsy Cline.

They pretty much refuse to play Kacey Musgraves at some stations because she's cool with weed and gays. They pretty much ran her out, and now she makes mediocre pop.

I was under the impression Kacey doesn't get radio play because she doesn't suck up to and schmooze with the execs who make those kinds of decisions. I seem to recall her saying she's expected to be nicer and more accommodating than her male peers and they don't take kindly to her not playing that role.

Ehhh, I'm not going to hate on Katy too much here. Her music? Eh, no thanks. Her wackadoo personality? I kinda dig it.

As an aside, I have never been to Kentrucky. I tend to judge a location more on scenery/things to do vs the location population (People suck everywhere).  Is it worth a trip?

I visited a friend, wasn't particularly spectacular in terms of scenery compared to other places I've visited/lived. There's a lot of bourbon distilleries that do tours and offer samples, so if that's your jam it could be treated like going wine tasting. There's also a neat cave that does tours. Aside from that it was... meh. Then again, my friend isn't a particularly good tour guide so...

Such a cross section of modern America.

Yes, I'm sure a wealthy and famous pop singer is really taking in all that authentic, common-clay Kentucky living.
