Modi is an asshole who sets his hindvatu thugs onto India's "minorities", Darlit coontouchables) and Muslims especially.

Those mother f*ckers have even been harassing naturalized Canadian citizens of Indian descent who dare speak out against his nationalistic/ethnic theocracy boolsheet.

Love India. Love Indians but this Modi guy... he's not my kind of guy.

Also... that is a disgusting amount of money to drop on complimetary death machine swag.

Unless you have a certified bureaucrat.
Then you can maintain the net injustice by concentrating it.

Arm the poor in india.  Make the upper caste fear everything in india.  Make the place a blood bath for the unjust.

Summoner101: Another brilliant Putin maneuver to show the world how much better Western weapons are than Russian

Counterpoint: The Ukrainians have mostly been using Russian equipment (with the exception of the various manpads and ATGMs) until recently.

The equipment has some flaws but the biggest issue has been a lack of maintenance and training on the Russian side. Several NATO countries also have updated Russian equipment that works fine too.

I am all for bringing India more inline with the US if that is agreeable to them, and they might choose to since getting parts for maintenance on US equipment is likely to be much easier for the foreseeable future, but the equipment as designed by Russia is not trash.

FTA:

"Amid the Russia-West tussle over the former's invasion of Ukraine, the United States has decided to reduce its dependence on Moscow's weaponry and engage with India to deepen security ties with it."

Hopefully that $500 million in military aid includes a goddamn editor for MSN.com.

But savvy:

1) Screws Russia in the short term, by denying them the cash to fund their little Ukraine escapade.

2) Screws Russia and China in the long term, since backwards compatibility could ensure India's ongoing purchase of US advanced weaponry ad infinitum

3) Potentially provides a toe-hold for improved India/US relations, perhaps eventually leading to a non-China option for the US to off-shore high-tech manufacturing

Yup. He is another on the long list of hard right authoritarians/wannabe totalitarians that have risen to power around the world in the past decade.

Bolsonaro, those dicks who took over Italy, Hungary, Xi, Erdogan, Duerte, etc...

The world is primed and pumped for a fascist takeover.

At least Israel FINALLY got rid of BB and France decided to not sh*t its pants at the last second with tha La Penne POS.

Anywho. Hold onto your butts guys because this is the first time I've ever felt the possibility that full on global war might break out in my life. It's not a good feeling.

Or who knows? Maybe it all works better if there isn't endemic corruption throughout the ranks?

fortheloveof: Bet they drinks Coors Light.

Years ago I wrote a song for my old crustpunk band about domestic violence that tells two separate fictionalized tales.

In the first the suburbanite yuppie guy smashes out his wife's teeth with a "Coors Light can".

a) because it rhymed and b) my polo shirt wearing villain seemed like the kind of douche who would drink Coors light.

Pakistan is already pissed about being the last almost-adult in the room with the Taliban on the other side of one border, now US is trying to feed weapons to their enemy across the other border?

Wouldn't be surprised to see them pick up any slack India may leave in the Russian weapons market.

When the US starts selling these advanced weapons systems to every tin-pot dictator, or better yet, gives them away to corrupt governments that have a history of illicit arms dealing...like Ukraine...how long before they end up in the hands of terrorists?  Better yet, end up in the hands of Chinese techs who reverse engineer them and offer them for sale at 1/10th the price?

The weapons that the West is currently dumping on Ukraine have the ability to blast a jet liner out of the sky at high altitude, or pinpoint a single room in a building 20 years away.   Seems lots of farkers like watching gun cam video of T-72 tank turrets being blown sky-high, and airplanes being blown out of the sky by high-tech US Murica weapons.   Well, six months from now when turrets are popping off Merkava tanks and Air Force One is blasted out of the sky over a major metro area some of you may finally realize what madness this all is.

$500mln buys a lot of Bayraktars and 155mm artillery tubes, and the PGM and support logistics to go with. Turkey would like to sell a hundred million dollars worth of Bayraktars and other fun trinkets they currently can't to India and so may see its way clear to let a couple more little countries join NATO if they can get a piece of this pie. Biden is a master of statecraft, but he's terrible at twisting nuts like this domestically.

India doesn't work with Russia because Russian stuff is better.

They work with Russia because the US is buddy-buddy with Pakistan and China (in addition to being in bed with Pakistan) is a major threat.

India is generally working with Russia to develop the technology and their own ability to produce it so they aren't reliant on the US.

It is also worth noting that the fancy new toys aren't being used in any significant numbers and aside from things like ATGMs and drones being provided by the west, Ukraine is mostly using older versions of the same stuff Russia is to kick Russian arse.

inner ted: Whew

Funny enough, I worked in tax planning for a major A&D company, and we all loathed every potential deal with India.  Their restrictions on foreign investment, aggressive tax postures, and prediliction for graft meant we had to trot out a complicated and inefficient holdco structure every time, start down path of approval, and then hear that India just wouldnt take our terms.  Such a pain.  I probably killed a deal or three by layering on a pessimistic view of nonrecoverable tax cost - it literally wasnt worth our time to deal with them because margins to every other country were so much better and more predictable.

As suggested above, we sell them tractors to haul the Indian tanks away.
