What else are American companies gonna do? Hire Americans, those guys that join unions and want fair wages? HAH! I'd like to see you try!

Most of their tech is 30-50 years old, and internet access is basically limited to only high-ranking members of the ruling regime. Even if they weren't a despotic dystopia, under those circumstances, who would even expect them to be able to do a good IT job even if they genuinely, legitimately wanted to?

Shades of those old Dilbert cartoons where they outsourced IT to a country where everyone there is standing waste deep in mud at all times..

Nork Dorks - like Geeks on Wheels but really really cheap and only useful for Windows 95 or earlier.

Their hackers are pretty good. I expect there is a cadre of developed there running some good equipment. And probably get good training (at gun point).

I bet there are a few of Upwork type contracts fronted by someone in India or Pakistan (25$usd/hour) which then feed back to NK types (10$usd/hour).

Well, I mean they do pretty good work when it comes to 10BASE2 networks.

They'll eat tree bark and weeds and like it.

I am not even surprised by much anymore.

I read this and all my reaction was it was even worth the effort  to sigh "sounds about fracking usual"

The only NK person I've ever worked with was in IT.

He turned out to be a massively untrustworthy, malicious backstabber, professionally and personally. He had an axe to grind. He had a bmw and a gun and acted like he was the sh*t.

But he stank of "geek with a ego".

I'm not trying to talk up the Norks here, but even an ancient DOSBox could potentially penetrate, well, anything, if the target is weak and the attacker skilled.

Right now, there is some goat-f*cker in a cave in Afghanistan, armed with nothing than a late-90s' Nokia cellphone, who could easily take down half of the American electrical grid.

Consider, 10 year old tech is free.

They have internal Internet for everyone. Everyone has a cellphone and a DIVX player.

They trade information via USB sticks and burned CDs.

Consider, 10 year old tech is free. And a major export for Best Korea is working in China.

/I once for the lulz tried Red Flag Linux.

I just want to say, no.

But, what if the IT worker is hot, and OK with working topless?

I wouldn't really mind if she stole a bit, I mean, that's acceptable.

WalMart in China makes space and time for employees to attend Communist Party meetings.

I thought all Linux and open source software was communist. That's what all those MBAs said.

Go get your MBA, snort bucketloads of coke for a decade, and then think on it..

The thing is there are not enough Americans with the applicable skills to fill all the jobs available. For people like me who work a STEM career it rocks, because it means very good wages. But for companies it is a struggle to get qualified candidates through the door due to competition from other employers, it is a huge obstacle. My company has a $5000 referral bonus for current employees who refer qualified people who get hired. That is how desperate the industry is for workers.

Of course if the United States had universal tuition free university, junior college, and trade school; there would probably be more Americans available to fill those positions. If you are smart enough you will get a scholarship, but we have many "B" students who could make the grade, just cannot afford tuition. But since the political right calls it "socialism", we cannot have nice things.

It is kind of like how the service sector is desperate for workers. There are a lot of potential workers on the border, but right wing xenophobia and partisan politics are preventing comprehensive immigration reform, to where a guest worker program could help fill these jobs American workers do not want to fill. I remember the left telling this to the right, just before the right started passing all their anti-immigrant worker policies on the state level. Once again after enough time, reality has proven the left correct again.

That's how it starts. You let someone steal a bit here, and a bit there, and sooner or later you're talking real bytes.

The pandemic and shift to remote work was amazing for some of us in regards to wages and opportunities...Do you know basically any virtualization platform?!? Here's money.

The Chinese Communist Party (and their sons and daughters who have married the daughters and sons of the New Rich) is China's new Mandarin class. What's old is new again. The sheer mass of the peasantry demands it.

US firms will hire whoever will work the cheapest and the most hours.  I just retired and went job hunting.  It is ridiculous what these companies expect from their workers.  I just forgot about it and decided to cut back and use my emergency funds if necessary. Frick it.

Any company hiring IT people from NK are simply begging to be infiltrated. Oh, hey, scary state-backed hacker types, can you run our websites, here, have full network access.

Morons.

Well then, when you find out most of your tech's been hacked up the ying-yang, you know who to blame (Hint: Not the American worker who's part of a union).
