(NPR)   After the most recent election results were tallied, it's now clear that Hezbollah no longer holds a majority in Lebanon's parliament. No doubt they will face this with calm, rational acceptance   (npr.org) divider line

"Hezbollah's most vocal opponents, the nationalist Christian Lebanese Forces party, emerged as the biggest winner, while its Christian rival, the Free Patriotic Movement founded by President Michel Aoun, suffered a political setback.
Though Christian, the Free Patriotic Movement is an ally of the shiite Muslim Hezbollah. The Lebanese Forces now has the largest bloc in parliament with 21 seats, overtaking the Free Patriotic Movement, which now holds 18 seats, a drop of three seats from the previous vote."

Their parliamentary system is farking wild.

Also this from TFA: The loss was not expected to weaken the Iran-backed group's domination of Lebanese politics, and all 13 Hezbollah candidates who ran got elected. seems to suggest that Hezbollah/Iran will accept this just fine, contra subby's best guess.

Maybe subby was referring to the Roman province of Syria Palaestina? Probably just really into Hadrianic policy. Mods must be total Hadrian heads themselves for letting it stand.

They'll accept it at least as well as Netanyahu did.  I have no doubt of this.  And far better than the GOP.....

That shiat is why you need a strong wall between church and state. The choices shouldn't be which kind of religious fanatic you want to be in charge.

Apparently Hizballah's comments have been in acceptance of the results so far, and I'm not aware of any outcries of fraud.

We could be adding democracy to women's rights as something foreign terrorist organizations are better at than republicans.

Well that's funked up. I blame Clinton.

Their parliamentary system requires parties to state their religious affiliation and parties can only win the seats allocated to that affiliation.
The French invented this system for them, and the Lebanese have kept it even after a decade of civil war.
