Can't say I agree with his analysis.  That new rifle has some pretty serious recoil.  Can your average gamer / gravy seal keep it on target?

I could be wrong, but I think mass shootings would be a lot less effective if these psychos were humping an M14 rather than an M4 variant popular with your average gun nut.  ARs are lightweight, low recoil, and you can carry a lot of ammo.  That new rifle is bigger and heavier in every regard.

Never mind a shot gun would be a whole lot more deadly in these close quarter murders -- but as Beau points out, they're not choosing their weapons on logic.  They're choosing what they see in movies and marketing.

He makes straightforward points, like his response to the cry that America was greatest during WWII, where he notes that that era was brought about by FDR's progressive politics, not conservatism.

The problem is that he may as well be trying to argue Einstein's theory of relativity with a cage of monkeys who are flinging feces back at him.

He needs a video on how zero is going to change and all we have to look forward to is stochastic terrorism from the GOP, while decent people get picked off a half dozen here, a dozen there.

/Because that's exactly what we have to look forward to.

the thing about a mass shooting though is its a lot like taking your rifle to the range.
not like carrying it 15 miles hiking into the back country.
you have to be pretty farking noodle armed not to be able to pick up a rifle from your truck and carry it from the parking lot into a walmart or wherever your manifesto takes you.

and while yes, the larger round has more recoil, the heavier rifle also offsets that to some degree.  its not going to be pinpoint sharpshooting at 800 meters, no.  but again, thats not what we're talking about on a shooting spree in a store either.

are you convinced that a marginally competent lunatic would have more difficulty putting rounds into civiliants at 15-50 feet using a weapon like this compared to an ar-15?  im not.  and that just reverts us back to the other points about those rounds being more likely to kill the civilians and also more effective against the cops in body armor when they show up on scene.

Real talk...has anyone seen a picture of a Sig MCX Spear?

It's like someone MacGyvered a FAL and an AR together. It's got the AR charging handle right above the stock...but it's also got what looks like another charging handle on the side like you would see in a FAL. But...it's also got a forward assist, like you would see on an AR. It's also got the shiaty AR 2-position switch...but it also has an ambidextrous mag release.

/ What I am saying is...the internals on that rifle are an order of magnitude more complicated than an AR.

in fact every rifle has a box of other parts we couldnt fit inside the rifle including a toilet seat and a hammer for just $17,000 extra

Yeah, the AR 15 might have difficulties with body armor, but if a shooter is targeting a mall, school or public gathering it's more than sufficient to cause mass casualties.

Also his second point that the shooters would engage the cops with a more powerful weapon, I'm doubtful of that. If they wanted to, they already could cause sufficient damage with an average AR.

the real reason the AR is used in mass shootings isn't because it's a military gun, it's because it's $500, takes minimal training to use effectively and can shoot off 30 rounds very quickly.

I'd argue that the mainstreaming of far right talking points and the evolving effectiveness of violent propaganda within online communities will change things for the worst much more than any military arms adoption.

They have a proven new tool, gamifying, memeing and live-streaming their murders and some other dumb nazi farkers are going to try to beat this asshole's score.

to be 100% clear.  The ideal weapon to murder people indiscriminately in churches, schools, and nightclubs is a shot gun.  Not the AR.  Nor the Sig Spear

Beau is 100% correct about why the gun culture fetishizes the AR-15 and its variants. And he's probably correct in assuming these same people will start fetishizing the Sig Spear.   I just don't think it's going to matter at all when it comes to mass shootings or how people perceive them.

As Michael Xavier Johnson demonstrated, cops are already no match for someone who knows what they're doing, and he didn't need a rifle to shoot through body armor to do it.

Fun fact. Some conservatives reject the Theory of Relativity because they think it has something to do with "moral relativism." Phyllis Schafly's stupider son has a whole article on it at Conservapedia.com.

The theory of relativity is defended with religious-like zeal, such that no college faculty tenure, Ph.D degree, or Nobel Prize is ever awarded to anyone who dares criticize the theory, as the example of denying a Nobel Prize to the most accomplished physicist of the 20th century, Robert Dicke, illustrates. Other critics of the theory are Nikola Tesla, who called it a "...magnificent mathematical garb which fascinates, dazzles and makes people blind to the underlying errors. The theory is like a beggar clothed in purple whom ignorant people take for a king ... its exponents are brilliant men but they are metaphysicists, not scientists..."[6] and Louis Essen [1908-1997], the man credited with determining the speed of light. He wrote fiery papers and many feature articles of the subject in science journals with popular audiences against it such as "Relativity and Time Signals"[7] and "Relativity - Joke or Swindle?".[8] Perhaps the most famous website opposing relativity is this one, with its Counterexamples to Relativity page. The cornerstone item in that page involves the experimental measurements of the advance of the perihelion of Mercury that show a shift greater than predicted by Relativity, well beyond the margin of error.

I also noticed that there's a hole on the off-side of the upper by the bolt of all places, right above the charging handle on the side. It does not look big enough to eject brass...but it looks big enough to get brass stuck in. If it's not brass...then sand, dirt and grit will get in that way.

/ My question now is....how did this rifle pass the proving ground in its current iteration? It's got a hole...in the upper...next to the bolt. That seems like a problem....

The AR will continue to be popular.

But it does turn 70 in a couple of years, and is being retired by the military because it isn't good enough for a modern battlefield. The Spear is going to be its obvious successor (even if it never becomes as widely popular as the AR is today). People build bunkers and stock up personal armories in preparation for, I dunno, something. Plenty enough people will buy this gun. It will be plenty popular even if never as ubiquitous as the cheaper AR is. (Not to mention the obvious point that the gun and its ammo will come down in price dramatically as it gains popular civilian support)

And it won't be the gore from a mass shooting that alters the gun debate. As soon as this gun gets used in a mass shooting, the gun-control talking point that civilian weapons are too powerful and have no purpose aside from mass killing will be validated. This gun doesn't have a valid sporting purpose, it really is just designed for doing battle. So when this gun becomes widespread, it will alter the conversation about guns in a way the AR-15 couldn't (as the AR really isn't much more than a dressed up regular hunting rifle).

Why do we get a daily thread from somebody who claims to be an anti-centralized-government anarchist journalist under the name Beau but is a military supplier and cop trainer under his given name, Justin King?

Who is paying him?

Glad you brought that up. I wasn't aware of the funneling of Eastern European women into the panhandle to work shiite hotel jobs. Definitely makes me view dude in a different light. Thank you.

I also was unaware of that .
However he did his time and seems he has reformed.
He has a pretty good record of saying there's a good chance x happens.. and then x happens. So hes worth a listen.
The whole image is part of trying to reach a specific demographic. It seems to work somewhat.

misanthropicsob: I just think it's funny that people think he's just a journalist.

Like when Awards Daily's Sasha Stone went so hard for Hillary and then we found out that they were actually on the payroll.

Literally nobody thinks he's a journalist except for you for some reason.

He's a guy who makes video commentaries.  That's it.

But you spend an extraordinary amount of time ranting about him.

If I don't like something, I go find something else to do.
