"In late 1982, McCartney began working on a film titled Give My Regards to Broad Street, which chronicles a day in the life of the cute Beatle as he tracks down the missing master tapes for his new album"

Gee, I wonder why nobody wanted to pay to see that...

Lol.

Has anyone else here sat through "Magical Mystery Tour?"

Sir Paul's best work is in collaboration or at the very least done with other performers in mind.  His work with Elvis Costello, the collaborations on Tug of War (Stevie Wonder and Carl Perkins appear) and Flaming Pie (Steve Miller, Jeff Lynne and Dave Stewart among others) and some band he was in before Wings...

It's saying something that his "worst" album is still not as bad as a lot of band's "best" album. It's just boring and unnecessary. And "No More Lonely Nights" is quite a good song by itself.

Ragging on Paul is an old sport, but dude always comes back with something good. It's too bad he never found another person like John who would both push and edit him.

I'm still struggling with anything he's put out since "Back to the Egg," frankly.

McCartney III is really good. You can hear his age in his voice, but it's a good album.

I have, many times. Once was enough for Broad Street, though.

He's made a LOT of them.  They can't ALL be brilliant.

His garbage is nearly as bad as almost anyone else's garbage, but generally, their greatest stuff doesn't come close to measuring up to his greatest.

But did Mr Marks succeed in finding for him someone strong & fitting on his knee?

Love the track No More Lonely Nights.  When a buddy first played me a few of the Beatles songs from that album like Eleanor Rigby, it was curious how here was the same artist, the same producer, probably all the time and recording tech they wanted, but the recording wasn't nearly as interesting and textured as the original was some 12-14 years earlier.

I'm sorry, but liking anything this guy puts out is the very definition of "begging the question."

"But it's Paul McCrapny!"

...and?

Go into the movie expecting to watch it more as a strung-together set of long-form music videos and you'll have a much better time.

Different people will like different things. Me, I really enjoyed the hell out of McCartney II. But I loathe the long and winding road and hey jude despite recognizing they are skillfully crafted songs..

Easy Reader: Love the track No More Lonely Nights.

It's a good mid-80s sounding track.
And it's got Gilmour on it, so bonus.

The absolute best review of this song I read the day after the "Concert for Heroes:"

Then Paul McCartney played "Freedom" - a three minute song almost certainly written in half that time.

Sure. The movie is rough and the album is pretty meh but it definitely has some bangers. I think people knock it a little too much.

Well, he certainly bounced his ideas off Linda, and the sole album and single where she has co-credit are pretty damn good (Ram and Live and Let Die.) But I'm in the group that loves McCartney 2 and 3, which is pretty much all Paul.

Magical Mystery Tour is not a very good film. Some of the music is classic of course, but my point was that as a film Give My Regards To Broad Street is far from Paul's first fumble. It's actually better shot than Magical Mystery Tour, which isn't saying a lot, of course.

Same idea as another Farker brought up in here, if you watch MMT just to watch the videos for "Walrus" and others, it's all right.

I liked the film and was primed to do so by the music video cuts that would play between scheduled content on HBO at the time. That a girl I liked also liked it also helped.

Well it sounds like it. It is barely, and I mean just BARELY, a step above this:

He's been making records for over 60 years. They ain't all going to be good.

Also, if artists only released things they themselves were sure were good when they were done recording it we would be missing a fark ton of great music. Gotta let that shiat breathe a while before you really know.

I was at the SoFi stadium concert Friday night. Yeah, by the time you're about to turn 80 your singing voice is pretty much dogshiat. I think this is fairly intuitive but I just wanted to pop in and confirm.

Ebony and Ivory is the absolute nadir of his career. And it only took two musical geniuses to come up with something as trite and awkward as

"Side by side
on my pi-ano
key-board
oh lord,
why can't we?"

Good grief. It made me nauseous to even type it.

And Stevie's not off the hook for that crap either. He's blind, not deaf. And he has plenty of money and access to lawyers. He had plenty of opportunity block the release of that "song" and burn the master tape.

Now excuse me while I attempt again to have any memory of that steaming pile erased from my tortured mind...

That nice guitar solo on No More Lonely Nights is David Gilmour.
