(Vice)   "The most precise measurement of a W boson presents a possible challenge to the Standard Model of particle physics." I bet a W bosom is a LOT bigger than a D, a--what? It's W BOSON not bosom? Is it still sexy?   (vice.com) divider line

Definitely sounds sexier. Higgs Boson sounds like a name for a tractor otherwise....

"It's W BOSON not bosom? Is it still sexy?"

Well, it can still give you a hadron.

(Yes, I know that the W boson mediates the weak interaction and that hadrons are held together by the strong interaction so the joke only sort of works inasmuch as radioactive decay and certain high-energy processes involving the weak interaction can change quark flavor thereby giving you a different hadron than you already had, but c'mon, it's a boner joke, let's not get that pedantic.)

Cool. Now come back to us when you have more information besides "it changes things" and "its heavier than we thought"

Because no one knows what this actually means yet and there is still a metric farkton of science to be done. Shame on subby for perpetuating buzzword "science" garbage that doesnt actually tell us anything

during an experiment that ran at the Tevatron collider from 2002 to 2011.

Hmmm...

Everyone knows the Standard Model is wrong, we just haven't found the model to replace it.

It isn't wrong, it is incomplete and imprecise.  It remains an excellent predictive tool for most applications.

It's much like Newtonian physics isn't actually wrong, it is simply that it is imprecise which causes it to be insufficient for extreme states or large distances.

Sounds wrong to me.

/Just close enough for engineering.

//But technically wrong.

Subby here. Are you kidding? Skip a perfectly valid boobies joke just because it's too early to draw any hard conclusion from the study involved?

Thats the entire issue with a majority of science reporting these days. People are so pathetically desperate for clicks they tell us what they just found under a rock (so to speak), but cant tell us anything about it. Not why it matters, not what it might do, not how it could be applied. All it is these days is "LOOK ITS SHINEY" and when you ask the most basic questions all you get is a smokebomb

They need to just stop giving out information until they can answer basic questions, because if they dont provide the answers a bunch of armchair scientists sure as fark will fill in the blanks and lead people down a bad rabbit hole
