I can't even bother to post the Onion article. It's like a cycle of madness in this country.

"Republicans say Mental Health They're Not Willing to Pay For" would have been far more accurate.

People with mental illnesses are more likely to be the victims of violence, not the perpetrators.

Then stop running the "both sides" angle, grow the fark up, and start calling the terrorists, and the people supporting them, terrorists.  It's not politics. It's terrorism.  Once media starts doing this consistently, it will start the process of healing and, incidentally, boost ratings once over half the country realizes they have terrorists living next door.

Labeling it as terrorism would also be a step toward investigating how they are being indoctrinated.

The threat of legal action and civil liability are the only thing that would possibly make conservative media scale back their rhetoric.

Republicans are goddamned liars and don't give a single solitary fark about "Mental Health." This is bad faith and they need to start being called out on it.

They just want their farking guns with no restrictions and don't care who has to die so they won't be inconvenienced.

When you have half of a political party constantly pushing racist, fascist rhetoric that they're under attack and someone needs to DO SOMETHING to THOSE PEOPLE, you get people who decide to do something, to those people.

Buffalo was that and that alone, and most of the non-school ones have been that as well, and the Republican party is absolutely guilty of that rhetoric (and the Murdoch Machine even more so).

As for mental health care, the same party that likes to pin everything on that is also absolutely, viciously, opposed to actually providing care, mental or otherwise, to anyone who needs it, so the school shootings (which tend to be the somebody snapped ones)... yeah, that's their fault too.

The guns by themselves don't do it. What easy access to firepower does is raise the body count. That's obviously bad, and measures should be taken to stop it... but any plan that fails to dea with that the fact that there IS a body count in the first place will mitigate the damage of a given shooting... but not actually stop any of the shootings from happening. Either type of shooting by someone at a distance with a hunting rifle or up close with a shotgun is still going to result in several bodies.

If none of you farkwits had access to guns, this wouldn't have happened.

Yes, I own a rifle.  It's for hunting, and protection.  It was my fathers.  That is a very different thing from a handgun.  A rifle is a tool.  A handgun is for killing people.  If you ban those, and those wonderful military toys that have no use except for killing people... maybe, just maybe, your death count will decrease.

TL;Dr take a gun class. Be a responsible gun owner. Someone thought it was so important to keep one, it was literally the second law written for our nation.

I was reading the Bill of Rights last night. They are basically the first laws, right? What was so important to them, what problems did they have and how did they try to solve the problem of GOVERNMENT? And what rights do we exercise daily?

The very first law basically says a person can say, believe, and print what they want without fear of being imprisoned. The first law doesn't actually restrict anything except the government. Everyone loves this law.

The second one says the government can't take your gun. Some people interpret this as a right TO a gun, I don't think the same, but that's the current interpretation. I looked up who owns a gun in the US and it's about 30% of all people, but half of all white men. 70% of Americans don't exercise this right!

The third says we can't be forced to house soldiers, thus we have military bases. Our taxes pay for this right and we don't fear having to house soldiers.

The fourth is the right to refuse searches by the government. People give this up when they allow a cop to search their car. Don't do that.

The fifth is the right to refuse to testify against yourself. Most people think only crooks and politicians use this, but the fifth protects the innocent person from getting caught up in government. Some people know it though

Six, seven and eight are about the right to a speedy trial, a defense attorney, and reasonable bail. We don't even think about this right because it seems so obvious, but without it one could jailed forever without recourse.

Nine says there are more rights not listed and Ten gives the States the power to make laws. Fin.

Exercise your rights, citizens. Someone thought it was a good idea to protect those rights. Some days I see the wisdom in the rights. Days like this.

A bounty type system at the state level would effectively ban gun ownership.  Such a law would enable civil suits against gun owners and gun store owners who sold that gun and ammunition used in the incident.  Gun ownership would still be legal.
/this idea came from the GQP, afraid of this very thing after Greg Abbott banned abortion using the concept.

Bith Set Me Up: BizarreMan: Why not both?

[Youtube-video https://www.youtube.com/embed/NGY6DqB1HX8]

That doesn't mean that some of the ones who are perpetrators couldn't have been set on a different path with proper care.  It's a legitimate part of the solution (as is gun control), just not something to be used as a scapegoat.

2022-05-17 6:36:52 AM
So like Roe v Wade overturning for you know state's rights and all, can some states like mine or New York or California now ban guns or severely restrict ownership? State's rights and all, if the gun nuts need their inanimate piece of steel to jerk off with then they can move to Florida. Let them all kill themselves, just not the rest of us humans.

If you want to go back to the guns owned by the average American in 1787, I'm more than happy to do so.  You get to own a single-shot rifle or pistol that is hand-loaded in about 1 minute.  You can even get a cannon, if you want. But that's it.  No revolvers, no semi-automatics, no clips.  The 2nd amendment is an anachronistic vestige of a time when it was possible to contemplate that you could actually use force of arms to resist an overreaching government.  Those days are long gone.  Ukraine shows us that in order to resist even a mediocre army you need anti-tank/anti-air missiles and longer-range artillery pieces, tanks, attack helicopters and airplanes.
