Hey, no one's in this thread. That means I can say that states blow lots of money subsidizing horse racing without anyone becoming unhinged.

Acadia is in Maine or it's a GM car.

Arcadia is part of a racetrack in California.

But anyway here's a fun fact. The only people that track racehorse deaths are volunteers.
There's absolutely no requirement to track their deaths, and old, rich, white farks want to keep it that way.

Hundreds of racehorses die in the US every year, and on-track euthanasia are common due to broken legs, etc.
Zero die in Europe.

One rule difference between the two. In Europe horses can't have ANY drugs in their system of race day.

This is going to blow your mind, but Arcadia is actually an entire city with a racetrack in it.

In the US, these horses are all registered in The American Stud Book. There is an extensive literature out there on inbreeding in that stock. Virtually every horse is descended, through multiple lines, from Northern Dancer.
Their genetic diversity is less than that of giraffes or cheetahs, both critically endangered.
European breeding is at least somewhat more open, with fewer of the congenital issues that are yearly becoming more common in American thoroughbreds.
