Yeah, right.

2022-05-16 3:08:19 PM
Over the past decade, an increasing number of Chinese millennials have delayed -- or outright rejected -- marriage and childbirth, as they confront high work pressure, skyrocketing property prices, rising education costs and discrimination against mothers in the workplace.

Vaguely rings a bell.

You mean forcing young people into crushing levels of debt and destroying social support networks has negative consequences for your population?
No! You don't say!

The powers that be who push this narrative on us haven't really considered what a 'let it rip' COVID approach would do to China and thus the rest of the world with its relatively immunologically naive population, have they?

A decrease in population would cause pain and problems in the short term, but it will sort itself out in time and is hardly the end of the world.  If anything it will just further incentivize innovation to replace the need for human labor.

What's more likely to help ease carbon outputs? cutting oil or cutting population (that use oil)?...

The correct answer is BOTH!

These RNC idiots think outlawing abortion is going to save souls or something. Abortion should be legal and mandatory after your 2nd child. Biologists know not to count raw numbers of births in populations to establish whether the group is growing or shrinking - it's about rate of change over time, and if THAT starts dropping (especially precipitously*), you have a problem.

You should consider why that is.

* and especially especially among the ones doing the birthing - like China's old one-child policy combined with cultural sexism combined to do rather well

Yes, the petri dish ecosystem was destroyed. But for a beautiful moment in time, the funky shiat created a lot of value for shareholders.

FTA: That is especially so in Shanghai, which is reeling from seven weeks of stringent lockdown. In the country's wealthiest and most glamorous city, residents have been subject to widespread food shortages, lack of medical care and forced quarantine in spartan makeshift facilities. Authorities initially separated young children from their parents in isolation -- and only reversed course after a public outcry.

Gee, I wonder why someone wouldn't want to have a newborn kid in that environment.

And short of humans becoming amortal, it's irrelevant to our civilization.

As living standards go up to modern industrialized levels, birth rates go down.

We're going to start shrinking global population in a few decades, with zero outside intervention.

Well yeah, the one child policy was something they held onto for too long and is going to bite them in the ass. They relaxed it in 2016 to two kids and it didn't change much because you already have a generation of one kids trying to take care of their two parents as they get older, not to mention finding a mate when male children were heavily favored for a long time, and being able to afford to have kids. shiat their birthdates kept declining with the newer two child policy, and more recently that've increased it to three.

Like this was fairly soon going to be a pretty terrible implosion of their labor market and economy that's stuck caring for their older relatives when they can barely afford to take care of themselves. COVID just advanced that timeline. And the younger generation sees there's now much reward for trying to bust ass to keep it afloat either, there's a whole 'lie flat' movement over there for people seeing no reward for hard work other than burnout.

But it spread like wildfire on China's internet, resonating with many young Chinese who are fed up with the increasing pressure on them to have children -- from a society and government that many say has provided them with little of the material and emotional security they need to raise a child.

There will be no shortage of people.

Thje rising population number is just the human race's most successful economic ponzi scheme.

There will always be people. Maybe just not as many as there are now.

While China having a slowly shrinking population might not be a problem, a precipitous drop would be VERY bad. As it stands you are looking at the Party needing US debt to bootstrap themselves through the aging crisis in China. You change that to a precipitous drop? Then they can't survive and shiat starts making this Russian mess in Ukraine look like a joke.

Insecure much? Why is it that any time anyone says that maybe more people should have less kids, it ends with someone alluding to or outright calling for them to complete suicide?

I didn't have a choice to come into this world but I can make the decision to not bring any more into this world. My father's line ends with me. I plan to have no children. My mother's line probably also ends with me and my brother, as last i heard he had no intention to have children.

At the end of the day, the planet has a lot more people on it than it can sustain, an estimated 5 billion last i heard. People being reasonable and saying "Have less kids" is a whole lot different than saying "kill yourself".
