I can't think of anything more horrible than getting shot with an ugly mauve rifle.  God that thing is ugly.  If it was mine I'd shave its ass and make it walk backwards.

Sandy Hook changed nothing. Neither will this, by Friday it won't even be in the news cycle. What makes this unique is it's racial terrorism. But, this nation loves it some racism, and it's uncomfortable to talk about and makes white people feel weird and awkward, so best to just not talk about it at all.

It will get swept under the rug and the killing will continue unabated as a 2nd child soldier gets propped up next to Rittenhouse.

It's not like anything will get done. Criminy, the Democrats can't even get their act together enough to stop voter suppression laws; they're too busy giving COVID relief money to cops to do anything productive.

Gun control is like 45th on my list of things they should do something about.

There are too many guns to get rid of them.

A gun is more likely to kill someone you love than a bad guy.

There you go.  Inconvenient for both sides.

2022-05-16 11:45:14 AM
The whole notion of gun "control" is hilarious.  After 50 years of NRA paying bribes to lawmakers in order to subvert any sort of "control" at all, and arming every idiot, nutjob and loser and in the country with killing machines...I think we kinda missed the boat in the USA far as gun control goes.

The results though are absurdly hilarious to those of us in the real world, though.   Everybody shouting "why" every time like there needs to be a reason beyond a bad day or upbringing when killing machines are within arms' reach for any pissed-off occasion one might encounter.

Definitely one YouTuber who's better with the 2x option, a lot less drawl... for... effect.

Most of the people outside the gun cult don't care if it's a high power, low power, semi, auto, caliber, barrel length, or anything else.  The only people who do are dumb politicians trying to look like "they're doing something" without doing anything.

And most of the AR-15 crowd doesn't give a damn about "what the Army uses".  The AR is a sexual totem in and of itself at this point.

But, I'm old enough to remember when small towns around me didn't have gun shops with names like "The Coming Storm" and "Come and Take It Tactical".

2022-05-16 11:50:52 AM
If you watched the Buffalo shooter's Twitch live stream, he shoots people and they drop. I think what the guy in the Fark OP vid is saying is that with the new weapon, people will just explode and that will "change the conversation".

It's not going to change the conversation. If a bunch of dead kids at Sandy Hook didn't change the conversation, exploding bodies certainly won't. 4channers and racists will love it and beg for more.

I like Beau, he's wrong though. America has proven there is no level of graphic violence or gore it will not tolerate to shift the debate on guns.

He's right, one of these weapons will hit the street, the shooter will massacre people in double digits, no pictures of the horror will be broadcast because violence needs to be sanitized for our little brains. Thoughts and Prayers will be had, and by the following Friday the "National Tragedy that gripped the nation!" will be over and it'll be time to go shop for snacks for SuperBowl Sunday.

America will accept any blood price if it means playing with their penis extensions.

So he's concerned that people are going to migrate to the new army high 'standard' (really only infantry, everyone else will still be using the 5.56 m-4) weapon. States can't restrict the ammunition or the production of semi-auto versions because 2d amendment. What I don't get is how this is different than anyone with an M-14 or any semi-automatic in an old 7.62 NATO or .30-06 M1 other than status symbol land. You can buy armor penetrating .30-06 surplus off the internet.

So those kids will be extra extra dead instead of just dead? That'll change minds of the anti-gun control crowd and lobbies. It'll pull more support for gun reform, but not enough to change the courts and laws.

They could post pictures of a school that look like the killing floor of a beef packing warehouse, with numbers in the triple digits, it'll be a tragedy for weeks, debates will be had and at the end of it, things will continue until the next one.

The only way it makes the conservative news cycle is if it's a mooselimb guy who walks into an evangelical church, guns down a bunch of people with a legally purchased weapon(s), and even then they'll be trying to ban mooselimbs.

So whatever. I say enact at ten cent per round federal tax on ammo designated to make schools hard targets just like the NRA says we are supposed to do to protect kids.

Also we give EVERY American who can legally possess a firearm a brand new AR type firearm 5.56/.223 (.223 Wylde barrel) with 1000 rounds of AP (green tip) ammo if they want the weapon. No restrictions on carry in ANY public buildings or property. No putting up bullet resistant glass, and get rid of those stupid armored vehicles paid for by the government. We won't need them anymore anyway... an armed society is a polite society amirite? Sure as the sky is blue and not orange cops won't need bullet resistant vests anymore. They ever get in trouble they'll have many people to help stop crime... we might not even need cops in a couple years!

That's because American newsmedia doesn't show carnage because it might upset fee-fees of the very people who support guns, war, and death. 100 dead in Ukraine is a statistic, while in European news there are gruesome pictures of dead bodies.

Europe shows bloody bodies laying in the streets.

In the USA, we get some pictures of tidy body bags that could well just be trash out for pickup.

Of course, this isn't going to change because it challenges the status quo, and people don't like being uncomfortable. And before you get all high and mighty about how you aren't prone to propaganda, ask yourself how you feel when PETA releases animal abuse videos about slaughterhouses.

People like their bubbles where things are clean and nice and they can live blissfully unaware of the real world.

I believe it will change the debate, but will also not change the status quo at all because SCOTUS is packed and will be preventing any meaningful regulation of guns, not to mention the makeup of the Senate won't change enough to remotely pass anything whatsoever resembling reasonable gun control measures.

2022-05-16 12:03:47 PM
I'm not sure I agree with his point that people buy the guns as status symbols, and certainly not the guns the armed forces use. I do agree that guns are a kind of symbol that awards status, but that's not the same thing (I have the power to end your life slung over my shoulder, you'd better not fark with me beause I'm a badass).

His main point that this new gun will proliferate and become popular and since it's what the Army uses and is more deadly and more powerful than the M15 doesn't hold water, either. It's extremely expensive and while it will get less expensive, I'm not sure that it will ever be the kind of cheap gun that the M15 is. He bases his entire argument on the idea that gun enthusiasts buy these guns as status symbols and with that shaky foundation, everything else in his video gets really wobbly, really fast.

Finally, he suggests that this gun is scary-looking and that will be enough for the gun control people to really push back. It is probably more deadly than an M15 as well, but they'll both put a hole through a person pretty easily and at a rapid rate of fire, so I'm not sure that "more powerful" is going to be the kindling that ultimately burns the house down.

I'd be nice if military-grade weapons weren't available to civilians. It'd be nice if states would enact laws to require gun owners to be responsible rather than just hoping they will be careful and responsible. It'd be nice if guns had to be registered and insured like automobiles and boats and aircraft and all kinds of other things that can kill innocent people. But since those things won't happen, I guess we're stuck with even more guns, more powerful guns, and more effective guns becoming commonplace.

And nothing he said in that video will change any of that.

2022-05-16 12:03:57 PM
Also, he's wrong about the M60. It fires the 7.62x51 (308) round which is more powerful than the 6.8x51.

Beau is wrong about this one. People LOVE graphic violence. Gamers desire ever more realistic gore and violence for their "entertainment".

People exploding would only excite a certain type of person into a shooting spree that much more. And Republicans and gun Nuys will continue to obstruct every attempt at control. If anything, more gory deaths will only increase mass shootings. America is a cesspool.
