NRW is not exactly some far left stronghold. SPD won by a whopping 3 points in the last federal election.  In the one before that CDU won by 6 points and the one before that it won by 8.

Well that is a terrible article. Is this an indication that the SPD being to friendly to Russia or taking too many steps opposed to Russia. TFA seems to be saying both.

Also, Subby's headline is even worse. Considering it only took a few moments to find that the CDU won the last elections there and the SPD took a much bigger hit in 2017 that it did in this election.

The only thing I knew about Westphalia was from those VW camper vans that used to be all over the US, but they don't import anymore.

I don't think Subby is so much saying the CDU is the equivalent of the GOP, but he is implying that the SPD is dominant in NRW like the Democrats are in California so the CDU winning there is a shocking, huge shift.

Except that isn't much better for Subby due to the part where the CDU won the last election.

I decided to try the Greens. They will likely form a coalition with whomever is in power, and they seem to be doing alright at the federal level.

I think it's less of a reflection that Scholz is not being "friendly" enough to Russia, and the fact that sanctions on Russia have had VERY bad effects on the German economy.  People are pissed when things affect their pocketbooks.

The "Rival" SPD and CDU were in COALITION together for the latter part of Merkels's chancellery. (To block the extremes.) So this is more like Jerry Ford's GOP vs. Jimmy Carter's.

If anything is Texas in Germany it's Bavaria.  Most conservative state, more religious than elsewhere, big, they talk funny, want to be their own country.

Subby! You suck at German politics!

The CDU isn't the equivalent to the GQP. Hell, Merkel was chancellor for the CDU. You can compare them to the Democrats. The political spectrum in the US is way to the right from a German/European perspective.
A German equivalent to the Republicans would be the AfD.

It's really mind-blowing. Only true idiots who really are too dumb to pick up a book would equate the CDU to the current breed of Republican racists. Merkel and Kohl, I mean, check their politics you numpty!

The SPD is traditionally the workers party. That worked out fine as long as NRW was dominated by miners and the steel industry. So for many decades Johannes Rau from the SPD was the state's "governor".
Nowadays the whole structure in NRW is changing and the state isn't a safe seat for the social democrats anymore. In fact it had been switching back and forth since 2007.

These things aren't always easy, but I'm not sure how you're going to succeed in life being an obese couch potato who drinks, smokes, does drugs, has no interest in gainful employment, or the attendant money that it brings.

The bottom line is this, guy. Earth is only so big. So either we will control our own population, or wounded Mother Nature will do it for us, by not being able to support us.

All the snark and snide commentary in the world won't change that.
