No way in hell this happens. This is just a way for JetBlue to torpedo the merger with Frontier, which already had its own problems.

That's not how hostile takeovers work.

This is honestly one of the better scenarios if you are someone forced (and i mean forced, you would have to put a gun to my head to fly frontier or spirit) to use the lower tier carriers, don't live by a hub, or travel a ton and sometimes need a last second, "ok, fine, who can get me there" option.

While Jet Blue still is very much a "you get what you pay for" airline, its leaps and bounds above frontier\spirit, and does pull marketshare it doesn't want to lose from the non-discount carriers by cheapening their brand name. A spirit-frontier merger will take the discount market from a bus with wings, to a pedicab with wings, and then anyone who doesn't care about the cheapest base fare possible gets screwed in a continuing race to the bottom.

Jet Blue\Spirit would give you a pretty good network, but one that also still cares a bit about brand identity.

If there's anything I don't mind paying extra for, it's brand identity.

Well, since Spirit is involved, I can understand the hostility.
