He is an extremely experienced politician.  I am quite all right with that.  And if Trump got elected again, he could still start a civil war in four years.

I don't think anything has changed but his public messaging. Being nice guy uncle Joe who could reach across the aisle is just part of his brand. But he's not stupid. He knows what the GOP has become. This is just a change in strategy, not an epiphany about the GOP.

It would be great it we could find common ground with conservatives. I'd be all in favor of that.

However, it is not currently possible because conservatives arent on the ground... they are floating around a million miles from the ground... you cant even see the ground from where theyre at.

If you meet the devil halfway, you're still in hell.

I don't think he does.  I think that is the entire problem with third way Ds.  They still think the GOP is playing political theater.  They do not know that they aren't, and never have been.

They're true believers, and Joe thinks they're just using some negotiating tactics.

Obama and the rest of the Dems should have had that figured out by May 2009.

aagrajag: You people need an LBJ-type bad motherf*cker, the kind of person who'll summon Manchin and Sinema to the Oval Office, then slap both of them across the face repeatedly with his dick until they fall in line and cease sabotaging the party.

LBJ had a near 2/3rds Democratic majorities to play with. Biden has a 50+1 to 50 "majority". He literally can't lose a single vote.

You can play that strong-arm game when they need you more than you need them. Biden isn't in that position.

Biden knows that the current GOP isn't on the up and up. He's always known that. You seriously think Mr. "Let's Go Brandon" doesn't know that?

The issue is that there are a lot of "independent" voters who vote tone rather than issues. His Senate "majority" also heavily depends on a Democrat who won an R+38 state, and is not exactly progressive. So if he wants to win these "tone voters" (and maybe relegate his defectors to have room to vote), he has to pretend that he's being all bipartisan and say nice bland things about getting along.

You're putting the cart before the big dicked possibly involved in his own promotion horse.

LBJ had that majority because the Dems still acted like Dems back then, and didn't just keep moving right to poach republican voters.

I'd give Trump four days in office before states are actively preparing to secede.
And by that, I mean that they have spent the entire lame-duck period working on the legislation and building alliances with neighboring states.
They might not even send their congressional delegations or their electors.

2022-05-16 6:59:21 AM
No. Biden was the ONLY ONE who could get Republicans on board for bipartisan agreement. That's why we voted for him, for the kumbaya drum circles and West Wing fanfiction.

"The thing that will fundamentally change things is with Donald Trump out of the White House. Not a joke," said Biden during a 2020 New Hampshire campaign stop. "You will see an epiphany occur among many of my Republican friends."

Now I understand why seniors are usually the targets for scammers.

Although I thought he understood this at the outset but only now is putting this
out on the record. Which is weird since we all remember the time wasted under Obama.

It doesn't matter, they want their fascist, Gilead-Turner Diary New Confederacy at any cost.

"Still acted like 1960s style Dems?"  You mean kissing up to the racist klan back then? Absolutely!

Indeed, that was before the Southern Strategy. Now, all of those racist southern Democrats are now racist southern Republicans. That's literally the difference.

You're not going to get racists (that Democrats ditched moving left) to vote for you by pitching them socialism, champ. Even if they agreed with socialism, which they don't.

Your real problem is with the voting public, not Democrats. If the voting public actually supported any of the warmed over communism you're selling, you'd have more of an impact than just being able to make the country go even further right (by acting like petulant spoilers).

Nobody here is voting Republican except for the psychos that come in taunting us about how cool guns are whenever a mass shooting happens.

But people here ARE saying that Democrats suck and that they're not voting for Dems unless they stop being trapped in 1985 and stop pampering Republican voters and actually try to make things better.

They aren't entitled to votes.

If they want my vote, f*cking act like you want to make this place the first-world country it likes to brag that it is.

Until then? No vote. And that's the whole point of politics. Voters have the power and the leverage.

Politicians pander to the demos that vote, not to the demos that don't vote.

Republicans committed to guns and abortion vote all the damn time.  That's why they are getting their way even in a country that wants gun control and choice.

Obama made the same mistake too.
At least Biden figured it out sooner.

GOP hasn't been playing fair since 1993,
When Clinton came into office.
An impeachment for a BJ?
Whitewater?

That's when I stopped being a Republican
Went GDI.
I'm not for the Dems, but I certainly don't like the current GOP.
You don't replace a C student with a dunce.
The GOP is just rhetoric and dirty tricks now.

Talk to me when the GOP actually has ideas
And can play fair
Otherwise they're just Dick Dastardly
And Americans have an incredibly short attention span, so they get voted in...again.

Instead of trying to convince racist bible thumpers to maybe possibly vote for conservative dem,  the democrats should try pandering to their own base and potential new voters.

rogue49:

Biden figured it out almost a decade after he actually learned it with Obama, when he was VP for 8 years and party to current events, and with 4 of the worst years on record and a coup to open his eyes by now you, mean.

Credit where credit's due,  but in this case it's definitely closing the barn doors after the horse got out, moved to LA, started an acting career, worked as a server for a few years, finally got a good role, hit the big time, married a costar, had a turbulent marriage, got very publicly divorced, sued each other, and was accused of shiatting in the bed, and now has a long face.

The GQP haven't dealt in good faith my entire adult life, and presumably not in my childhood either because scoundrel stories from Nixon era politics sound very modern in that the GQP were lying liars back then too. It's nice Joe's FINALLY got the message apparently, but he's late to the party by quite some time

They don't vote all the time. Warnock wouldn't be Senator if they did.

Hell, even the democrats try pandering to them.

LOL. Tell me you've never even met a Republican without telling me you've never met a Republican.

Instead of trying to convince racist bible thumpers to maybe possibly vote for conservative dem,  the democrats should try pandering to their own base and potential new voters.

You can't even win a Democratic primary with your mythical "potential new voters". And kook-lefties who never vote for us aren't the Democratic base, either.

In all coalition politics, people whose positions drive away more votes than they themselves deliver, are rightly ignored. Even if those positions are merely unpopular, instead of being terrible (or both). This is why you're not pandered to.

But yes, no one ever underestimate the far left's undeniable power to lose elections. Look at all they've done in that regard for Senator Sanders.
