Gee, it must really suck to have the entire country getting all up in your private business, and condemning you for your choices.

Considering what you're gearing up to do you'd better get used to the paranoia. If fark is any indication that there are quite a few folks who would be willing to perform unspeakable violence based purely on the farking DRAFT decision.

Good, glad to hear it.  Feel what marginalized employees have felt for forever.  And that's what you are, our employee.  Stress over what your coworkers are doing, stress over every comment you utter, stress over your employer deciding to eliminate your position.  Stress some more, and then decide it's time to retire on your fat federal pension.

I bet it was John Roberts. I don't think he likes the new kids on the 'block' and even he's disgusted with what's happening. Of course he has to cry 'outrage' but I don't think he agrees with MAGAt extremism as being patriotic and this is his way of alerting the country before the elections.

This lifetime appointment thing, which started back in the days when few lived beyond their forties, needs to be reconsidered, IMHO.

I think there should be a minimum age of 55 (post menopause and post mid-life crisis) and a max at 80.

You SERVE in government, asshat. In this country, that means you serve US. Every single decision you make is supposed to make us better. Which means every single decision you make, down to your last fast-food taco is OUR business. In your position, you forfeit your right to privacy because every decison you make binds 300 milion+ to it. This leak is just the surface of what we, the People, should know. EVERY THING YOU DO should be public record. You're supposed to be representing US. If you're making decisions that are so far away from OUR interests that you should be able to pass it in the shadows, make better decisions, then resign, because you've failed at your job.

Life expectancy at birth and life expectancy when apoointed are different because most babies died in infancy. John Jay lived to 84. James Wilson to 55. William Cushing to 78. John Blair 68. John Rutelege to 61. James Iredell to 48. One of the original SC died in his 40s.

Lifetime appointments still should be revisited. Make it a set term so that each Presidential term includes the appointment of a set number of justices.

Out of curiosity, it looked it up... The mean lifespan of the original members of the Marshall court was 68. A number of the founding fathers lived to their 80s and even 90s. John Marshall himself was appointed at 45 and served for 34 years. "Lifetime appointment" wasn't drastically different then from now.

There has never been a situation where "few lived beyond their 40s." The idea of a single average lifespan is only meaningful in developed countries today because infant mortality has been virtually eradicated. In pre modern times (and today in broken nations) the "average" lifespan was/is hugely sandbagged by appalling infant mortality rates. Throughout prehistory until vaccines and sanitation, typical fatality rates were easily 30% by the end of year 1 and surviving until puberty made you the minority.

This was skewed upwards for upper class families for whom some notion of sanitary living was available, but even then childhood - and childbirth - were famously dangerous. But even in dark ages Europe, if you survived to 15 you'd almost surely live to 50, and quite possibly your mid 60s.

No, no it doesn't.  The Supreme Court was bankrupt before the leak, and it is still bankrupt, and this in no small part because of your presence on it.

That's a misconception.  It is true that average lifespan then was much shorter, but that was mainly due to infantand young child ortality.  If you survived into your teens your life expectancy was more or less about 70.  Another, perhaps more relevant thing.  Abortions were commonplace.  They were viewed as necessary for s stable society.  Typically it involved herbal abortificients such as pennyroyal.  They were common enough that Ben Franklin included an abortion recipe and procedure in a math textbook to illustrate proportions.  An unwanted pregnancy was undesirable and abortion was the solution, not the problem.  This was not a controversy.

Yeah...that's still ON AVERAGE  a whole lot younger than the crop of fossilized evil we've got encrusting the top tier of SCOTUS and the Senate.

Mid to late 60s is a whole different animal than mid to late 80s, no matter how you slice the early part of the equation.
