(Al Jazeera)   For some Russians, flying abroad is a difficult, costly affair due to sanctions and restrictions, while others achieve flight more easily by being inside the turret of a T-72 tank   (aljazeera.com) divider line

Oops.

For Russians like Mishaa, who is opposed to the war in Ukraine, the country's international isolation is at once understandable and troubling.
"The isolation was expected. What did they want? That all the European community will react modestly? I never believed that," he said.

OK I actually feel a little bad for the guy.

Meh. I flew Aeroflot a couple times in my Moscow days and it was fine, no worse than BA going to/from LHR. I believe they gave you a full meal on the Russian plane, though I'm pretty sure the options were chicken or chicken.

Where things fell apart was in the terminals. On both ends, London and Moscow, the Aeroflot terminal managed to be complete shiat. I was never so happy as the day I found the weird, Russified TGI Fridays at SVO.

daffy: That's a new one. Tanks can fly? Never knew that.

There's a good infographic somewhere showing how Russian tanks are designed. The ammo is kept in a circle at the bottom of the tank under the turret. The people (except for the driver) sit above it, and the turret above them.

The ammo cooks off due to a hit, the turret goes to space, and you never find a piece of the crew large enough to identify.

Well, that's what you can use crypto currency for, as in, no shiat.

Ramblings about ponzi schemes and similar does not remove the simple utility of it.

Lots of things, but I read

"Russian airlines are slowly reentering overseas markets as they navigate sanctions"

And took "navigate sanctions" to be a euphemism for circumventing sanctions.

What's up with you?

Yeah.  THIS was the thing that cryptocurrency was supposedto be used for.  Instead, it predictably got captured by the hustlers, greedheads and money launderers.

"Managed to keep" does not fill me with confidence considering the corruption that is rife in EVERY part of the Russian economy.

that article highlighted how much of an ally Turkey is and their apparent resistance to Finland and Sweden joining up.  Europe in general has sanctioned Russia pretty heavily and banned flights, meanwhile turkey is still one of the places allowing flights.  They enjoy the protections of NATO but want to play all sides.
