If you do anything when you are drinking, that you wouldn't do if you weren't drinking, then, you shouldn't be drinking.

26. The 27th was removed and happens to be their home country.

TFA points out that they returned home to get their passports.

This is about as newsworthy as when my friends and I drive to Boston at 6 AM after my friends bachelor party, and we showed up at my ex girlfriends apt. unannounced at 9 AM on a Saturday.

She was totally cool about it, and her BF made us home fries.

Dan and Alex's mad weekend was similar to that of Rachael Wynn in 2019.  She flew to Ibiza after getting 'absolutely p****d' at a Christening in Manchester

That's now how Christenings work in America.

We use Holy Water.

No, it's 27 now. It was 28 with the UK. And even before Brexit they'd have needed their passports, the UK not being in Schengen and all that. Still, does show that even after Brexit flying to Ibiza for a weekend is still just as easy as it was.

I... kinda but don't really wanna party with those guys, they'd probably get me in trouble.

Back in the day I jumped on my motorcycle north of Chicago without packing a d--n thing and ended up in Niagara Falls, Canada. In November.  Without a passport.

Needed to get away for a while... It was just after 9/11.

The border guards almost didn't let me back in the country with just a driver's license...

/ getting the tattoo done in CAN was worth it
// so was the US <-> CAD exchange rate at the time

Only a terminally boring fark or some kind of paranoid cellar dweller could consider this to be "Idiotic"

These guys had a crazy mad fun weekend and even got back in time for work on Monday.

Be jealous subby. Be very jealous. Don't ever do anything harmless for fun or people may make fun of you!

Hm, I even looked it up to be sure before posting that. Granted, this is more for inbound travel from the EU, but I assumed it was reciprocal: "Citizens of European countries who are used to travelling to the United Kingdom using a national ID card rather than a passport can no longer do so. A passport is now required to cross the border. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival in the United Kingdom."

And for good measure I googled "number of Schengen countries" and got a big boldfaced "26."

But I am no expert and have learned all too well in the past year or so that "do your own research" is usually bad advice.

They didn't get murdered or trafficked. They did not hurt or harm anyone else. Their organs were not harvested and their @#$^s were not mutilated. They didn't get married to unsavory strangers.

This is a wholesome story. They could have married each other for extra wholesomeness from a storytelling pov.

From this side of the Channel it made little difference since we have no national ID card. Passport is really the only thing we used. The time we can stay in a European country is the big change.

Well, always happy to be educated, so thanks.

In retrospect I should have inferred something from the one-way explanation (followed by a separate explanation for outbound travel).

That's the bit that puzzles me. Usually a return ticket is far cheaper than two singles, so why buy the single? But then they were very drunk....

You can get silly cheap flights at the last minute if you don't mind the one way flight.
When the plane is ready to take off they will sell you a one way for almost cost just to make a few more pennies ;)

We did something like this back in the '70s.  The bars in NY closed at 4am and we're sitting there for last call trying to figure out what to do when somebody said, let's drive 200 miles to the ocean.

3 hours later, we're on the beach...
