The Bad Lieutenant is great and disturbing. I saw his penis in that more than I've seen my own.

re Reservoir Dogs.....Michael Madsen said on a podcast how the "no tipping" scene was written for Keitel's character, but the day before shooting, Tarantino figured, "no, this isn't right.  Keitel is the father figure, and while a criminal, has a sense of ethics.  He'd leave the biggest tip, not no tip."  Tarantino goes to Keitel's hotel room, where Keitel was rehearsing, tells him he's giving the dialogue to Buscemi / Mr Pink.  Who as a DGAF shiat-heel, Tarantino felt the scene made more sense.  Keitell was supposedly upset.

the next day's shoot, Tarantino pulls Buscemi aside.  "Heya, I need you to do this scene, here's the dialogue."  Buscemi with no notice, has 15-20 minutes to read the lines, and I think Madsen said, in his second take, nailed it.

I liked him in that public livery movie where he was cast as the drummer for an 90's prog-rock band.

His gutsy performance in rendering the polar extremes of his character's wickedness and vulnerability in Abel Ferrara's Bad Lieutenantis beyond brilliant.

He was the touchstone of those movies, but the ensemble casts were excellent.

If you like those, also check out Coffee and Cigarettes by Jim Jarmusche.

One of my dad's favorite movies was Pulp Fiction. He probably watched it more times than QT himself. And one thing that always harangued him was not knowing why Winston Wolf was throwing a formal, black-tie party at 9 in the morning.

I never thought of it as a party. It was a presentation of exclusive high-end jewelry for sale with the women modeling the pieces. Those are usually black tie affairs and may be held whenever international clientele can get there.

That makes so much sense.  I always wondered why he was at a black tie affair that early.  Anyway, I'm gonna go have a nice cup of coffee with lots of cream and lots of sugar, then go buy an oak bedroom set.

I always figured it was a party that was still running on coke from the night before.

Sure, it's a bad movie, but let's not pretend this isn't one of the best things to ever be put to film:

Its one of the great movies that exist almost solely to be a vehicle for the lead actor.... eg, There Will Be Blood, Bronson, The Wrester...   I love his reaction to the Daryl Strawberry game.

On paper this dialogue reads melodramatic but Keitel figured out how to make it super cool, the man is a national treasure.
