I'm an android person but I have an ipod touch 7 and I like it. It looks like a tiny iphone. I bet good cases are going to get cheap now!

I still have a 160Gig iPod with video that I use in my car. I wish they'd do one last high-capacity iPod with solid state memory. My current one has an absolutely dead battery and probably drying hard drive. At some point, I'll probably try nodding it myself with new internals.

Seems like a cheap older iPhone with no Sim would suffice here.

Going by apple pricing that level of storage might cost several thousands of dollars

Actually that isn't fair, all the electronics makers charge insane markups like that.

Replacing the hard drive with a solid state alternative isn't too difficult.
Here's an example, not the same model as yours but the process is the same.

Yeah, that's what I plan on doing at some point. Just need to get around to it.

So, Apple is finally admitting that the iPod is a failure!

I am vindicated!

There are places you can mail it out for upgrades.

For most use cases, probably. I have one where it doesn't but it's oddball, maybe we just switch to mini iPad when the touch gives out.

A bit shocked they lasted this long.  No idea why you'd own on in this day of ubiquitous smart phones.

I had no idea Apple was even still making the iPod. That's like finding out telegram service is still being offered.

I imagine most of recent sales were for kids.

I held on for a long time with one of the 120gb models to hold all my cds but finally gave up and got a Spotify account and it works more easily with everything anyway.

Because I can get one with 160GB for about $99 refurbished. That carries my entire iTunes collection and I can plug that into a car's aux input and enjoy essentially unlimited music for the whole ride.

I still have (and use-) my little Nano... Being smaller than my phone, it's just easier to carry and listen to when I'm walking or at the gym. (We women are stuck with teeny, tiny pockets. If we have them at all. A small music player beats a larger phone under those circumstances-)

You can pry the iPod Classic I use in my car from my cold, dead hands.

You get the convenience of sticking that iPod (or phone) into one of the boob pockets.

I have an iPod Touch that I found under the back seat of the Suburban I bought from my boss. Nobody came forward to claim it so I kept it. I mainly use it for the camera for videos and pictures.

Depending on the boobs in question, that could be dangerous for the poor thing. XD

I have a 2nd generation one. It's filled with games from that brief, glorious time when there were no in-app purchases and certainly none of the predatory brainwashing that has since plagued gaming on mobile. It's very nice.

I was just thinking the same. Everyone has an old phone or two.  We get annoyed with our phones when they're three to four years old, and while they're laggy as full fledged iDevices, they're fine for playing music. In fact, they're desirable for certain activities (say, kayaking) where you might lose your phone.

That said, there's also less demand now that... well, pretty much everything is streaming now. And it costs $10 to add a line to your phone service. Hell, an Apple Watch can be your iPod now, and streams across a cellular link.

That's exactly what we did for our daughter. All the fun things she liked about our start phones, and looked just like a smartphone. Worked great filled the needs until she was old enough to get an actual phone.

Our kids now got our hand me down phones. My 8 year old daughter is using a iPhone XR. Not bad for her first phone.

My son will be getting my Huawei P30 pro when I choose to upgrade. Seems we can only get Samsung up in these parts. Hoping to get a high end Xiaomi or Vivo phone.

Hawk the Hawk: Will it shuffle off into the distance?

I like my iPod shuffle. It has about 150 albums and is so small that I routinely have to go searching for it. Unfortch it doesn't seem to work with my car stereo anymore, and it might not work so great on my Bose plug-in thingie much longer either.

2022-05-10 10:04:23 PM
I preordered a shuffle around 2005 so I was one of the first to have one. I think it was the last time teenage girls started conversations with me.

Wireless.

More space than a Nomad.

Cool.

I loved my iPods, but when the last one died, I switched to playing my mp3s on my Android phone and never looked back. I don't see the point in having a separate device for that purpose when so much power to do that and more exists in a device I carry everywhere anyway.

I have one. I rarely use my phone so i use a cheapy pay as you go. $20 covers at least 2-3 months. No need for $1000 latest iPhone and $60/month bill. I use mine for a few games, internet at work, and podcasts/music.

I need to get a 256gig one because my 126 is running out of space..

I'm actually interested in getting a new mp3 player, because

1) Steaming services don't have the music I'm interested in
2) I don't want to listen to music on my farking phone

Preferably one with large storage capacity (60gb at least). Any suggestions that's not chinese spyware (ie: Huawei)?

Yeah, just  buy an older iphone and remove the sim card.  Sandisk sansa is a decent MP3 player but I don't think they have that much storage.

I have a (dead) wheel iPod with so many mixes and rare shiat that I can't find anywhere on the internet. Oh, to be able to get that data, somehow.
