Let's see, I've got all my childhood vaccines, flu shot every year for over a decade, travel vaccines, three covid vaccines (so far), and my kid gets his vaccines the day they're available to him. Sure, I'm an anti-vaxxer. LOL.

When I was a kid, I was sure I'd broken my wrist.  Mom called BS because it would have hurt more.  She wrapped it in an ace bandage with a piece of metal to keep me from bending my sprained wrist.  Fast-forward a quarter century...

Went to the ER thinking I'd broken that wrist playing sportball.  Got an x-ray and Dr. Cinnamon Redd (hand to God, that was her name) said it was just sprained.  In passing, she mentioned that the old break healed well.

I FARKING TOLD YOU, MOM!!!

She gave me a proper splint and a prescription for 600mg ibuprofen but said it'd probably be cheaper to just triple up the OTC dosage unless I had amazing insurance.

One of my kids was on the small size, and started puberty by whining and complaining about everything.  Like PMS on steroids.  Every freaking morning, every movement, whine, whine, whine.

We put up with it for a day or so, did the home remedies like Advil, ice packs, heating pads, walk it off, etc.  After a couple days, we headed to the pediatrician.

The kid was having literal growing pains.  Since the last physical, there was over three inches in height that none of us had noticed because it was summer.  Shorts and tank tops are very forgiving of lengths.

We felt badly about not believing the kid, but the doctor said most kids have growth spurts in one area at a time, but our kid apparently was sprouting in every direction at once.  This interior tug of war made for sore muscles, achy joints, and tight skin, which fortunately settled down about a month or so later.

The PMS?  Not so much.

Within a few weeks of arriving home, everything felt back to normal. Unfortunately, I punctured the same lung last month during a netball game

Maybe you should just that particular lung go, dude. It seems like nothing but trouble.

I had a fractured vertebra from an old football injury evidently. The brought me in an ambulance after scraping me off the street from a motorcycle accident. They kept delaying treating my painful, obviously broken wrist until the doctor came in and read the x-ray. They pointed out the  back "injury" and he angrily told them it was old and healed. I'm not sure when it happened, but I've got a pretty good idea.

Even a remotely possible broken back vs. a broken wrist and you're not the M.D?  Yeah I'd be way more worried about the fractured vertebrae too.  If you're wrong about that, patient gets a bad night and nasty amounts of pain - which both suck but don't involve possible paralysis generally.  Being wrong about the back has that potential.  Sucks but... that sounds like a pretty good call to me honestly

/a better call would be getting a full doc to at least glance at that xray posthaste if it's even a possibility though

I see your point, but the Ortho seemed annoyed that the other folks present couldn't see it was healed. I don't think I had pain there, but I was pretty sore from being a rag doll after T-boning a car and landing on my head. I don't recall a lot of it because it was so long ago.

Oh I'm sure they were annoyed when the others didn't catch it - a lot of docs are - they forget not everyone has their training etc.  And more importantly most of the time, they forget that that kind of thing is not the nurses/PA's call, it's the doc's.  Unless you do make that call for them - then they'll be annoyed you've usurped their place and possibly endangered a patient and try to get your ass in a sling.  No - there really is no winning with a lot of them.  Non-MDs either do too little because they're dumb or they do too much and stick their noses where they're not trained to be - no middle ground.  Key point is there are an unfortunate percentage of docs that are actually dicks - they're just dicks with good medical skills.  No fun for the staff that has to work with them, tell you that for free

/not all of them by any means
//but too many
///they suck for both patients and other medical personnel as far as brain damage, but get kept on because they're technically competent or the hospital has trouble stafffing usually
