(Calgary Sun)   Playoff hockey in Calgary. Serious business. None of that tomfoolery stuff like honking your horn, drinking on the street and so forth. Violators will report to Daryll Sutter's farm to tend to the cows   (calgarysun.com) divider line

CSB:  I was fortunate enough to be part of the festivities after defeating Detroit in 2004 and clearly remember the absolute joy and camaraderie of that Red Mile celebration.  The part that really stuck in my memory was seeing the Calgary Police out there smiling and high fiving.  At one point, a random partier walked towards a parked Police motorcycle and jokingly acted as if he was about to mount it.  A partier heading in the other direction simply said, "Dude, don't ruin this."  The first guy looked around, nodded, and walked away to continue high-fiving everyone.

I also remember more than a few people actually asking the police officers if it was ok to high five them on duty...gosh we're such a polite people.

I think people just got fed up by those freedom convoy twits and this is a side-effect.

All they have to do is tell people to act in the same responsible manner that they do during the Stampede.  Granted over the course of a long playoff run this would mean that Calgary would be turned into a giant smoking crater but them's the breaks.

/csb  I used to live on 17th avenue, up near the Childrens Hospital.  We walked down just before the Flames won the cup in 89.  Beers in hand we were stopped by 2 police officers.  They politely askwd us to finish said beers, and deposit the bottles on the nearest recepticle.  We did so, and as we were leaving the one officer said if we wanted to drink, please make sure the beverage is in a can, no bottles.
