Yeah, I have zero problems with this. Asking users to pay a subscription for an app they find useful is a lot more honest as a business model than selling their data to advertisers.

Users are being asked to pay for inessential flair, not a useful app, and there's nothing to suggest that their data won't be sold to advertisers.
