Yeah but they're bringing it back because Boomers instilled the mindset that you can eat or drink anything with impunity.

Look how they went batshiat crazy when Michelle Obama suggested a nationwide nutrition program.

BINGO:
From Wikipedia: Italian Soda: Rinaldo and Ezilda Torre brought recipes for flavored syrups from Lucca, Italy, and in 1925 introduced what became known as an Italian soda to the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco, California.

/ Also from Wikipedia, adding Cream sometimes leads to them being called French Soda.

You can literally walk from where they invented Italian sodas to where they invented Irish coffees.

Wiki says that Irish Coffee was invented in Ireland (Foynes Airbase Flying Boat Terminal, County Limerick), but was first brought to America to a place, as you say, walking distance.

It predates them by decades. c.f. Fix the Pumps or Saxe's New Guide or The Dispensers Formulary. Adding cream to sodas was part of the beverage trade in the 19th century

This.

From Wikipedia:
"Customers can combine various drinks and flavors to create thousands of possible drink combinations."

i will fill you in: utah mormons have re-invented the soda fountain as a few chains of stand alone stores, for years now.

apparently they fill a social niche that would be filled by bars and coffee shops in a non-mormon society.

oh, and they call these drinks "dirty sodas" -and olar has kindly pointed out perhaps this is where they stop for a liquid refresher, after a long, hard day of soaking and jump-humping. but TFA doesn't say-

then tiktok found out. now even non-mormons want to drink dirty sodas! as pictured below:

reminder: mormons can have caffeine, they drink diet coke. they simply are prohibited from "hot drinks."

so does that mean an extra shot starbuck's mocha is fine as long as it's ICED? and we both know who we should ask about that IRL.......

It gets slightly weirder. By "hot" they don't necessarily mean "higher temperature". Back when Joe Smith decreed this medicine still had a lot of Ancient Greek and alchemy. Hot meant "created choleric humor" which warmed the body. Too much of that was unbalanced and bad. Coffee and tea were choleric foods whether they were physically hot or cold.

So, it was not only thanks to a 19th century crackpot (like chiropractic). It was a 19th century crackpot working off 2000 year old theory

ahhh, so iced coffee is still right out, diet coke is in. for mormons. got it.

I would just like to say if your parents belong to a cult religion that 'forbids coffee'... that should be all you need to know that it's stupid and fake and for you to head out on your own and make your own decisions about your life.

(as if the whole 'sekret golden plates' thing wasn't enough to tip you off that you were participating in a completely made up multi-level marketing scheme disguised as a religion in order for the top tier to get as much poon as they wanted)

I don't think i was born then?

Was that show "wholesome" enough to be watched by Mormons?

🤔

But milk or half-n-half with cola isn't bad tasting at all. It's pretty much just like a "black cow" or root beer float after the ice cream melts into it.

As everyone says, this is nothing new. I guess in some ways it validates my life of mixing weird beverage combinations. Meh, its not like -that- matters much.
If you want to try something weird directly out of the can, try the new Pepsi Nitro. The infused nitrogen give it an almost creamy texture, so it tastes like an Pepsi float with the ice cream melted. Expensive stuff at $2.50 a can, but worth trying.
//Someday they will market my OJ mixed with Coke, or my 1/2 sweet tea/ 1/2 diet pepsi concoction and then...I will rue the day!
//maybe I should become an "almost geriatric" influencer... bring more bored GenXers into the fray...
//nah, I don't care that much
