One issue the Black Friday game will present is that the inventory is going to be tricky during Thanksgiving weekend. There were already six standalone games - three on Thanksgiving, three on Sunday - and it's already hard to produce that many compelling matchups.

As anyone will tell you, what may look like a compelling matchup when the schedule is released in May, might not be so compelling by late November. That's why they have the flex schedule.

A few weeks ago I felt the need to play TIE Fighter for the first time in over a quarter century so I ordered a joystick with just over four hours before midnight on a Saturday. Not with regularity but delays are more than understandable, especially so as you near the "order before 'x' to guarantee delivery on 'y'" cutoff time.

The delivery window had said 0730-1130 but I didn't really believe it so I didn't even check to see if it had shipped, I figured there was no way it'd get sent out that quickly and then get loaded onto a delivery truck. I got home just after seven the next morning and there the package was, sitting inside my screen door so that potential porch pirates couldn't see it as per my instructions.

I do this anyways. You're telling me there's a football game as well?  Nice.

Good point. Also, the Lions will be playing Thursday so there will be at most 2 compelling matchups on Thursday.

Is that gane going to be at 6 am when the crazies are really out doing their thing?

The joke's on Amazon (somehow) because the Black Friday shoppers will not be out on Friday: they'll be out on Thursday night.

Leave Black Friday for the college teams.  Your Thursday games are shiatty enough.

I was going to say this, thought last year's Turkey Day games were pretty good.  Detroit lost by 2, Raiders beat the Cowboys in overtime, and the Saints... oh, never mind.

It's kind of a hangover day, right?

Probably a good bet.  Not for me though, I bar hop on Black Friday.  It's the start of the winter drinking season.

Prior to COVID, my favorite thing to do on Black Friday was to park in a commuter lot and ride the light rail to the Mall of America.  I'd grab a soda and a pretzel dog and find a nice place to sit and just people-watch.

Watching people lose their shiat over the stupidest things was always fun.

no thanks, that's US vs England in the World Cup day. "it's coming home" my big yank ass!

Like I needed another reason to drink on a Friday.

It also marks the end of fall drinking season. 2 reasons to celebrate!

If they put in this game, it would not be subject to flex scheduling.

Flex scheduling only impacts sunday games.  Only sunday games can be flexed and the time they're played is simply changed.  All other games are not eligible.

If NFL games aren't on Fox, NBC, CBS. or ABC, I am unable to watch them. I won't subscribe to a service just to watch a few more games a year.

Flex scheduling is being expanded to other days for 2023

Only Monday games.  Still would not impact Friday.

Again, this would be a one-off Friday game and would not be subject to Flex Scheduling.

Hell, even if it were a Monday game but special (and therefore not part of the Monday Night Football package) it would still not be subject to flex.
