(NL Times (Netherlands))   The Dutch have forgotten the first rule of fight clubs as they are held increasingly in spaces where members of the public can join in whether they want to or not   (nltimes.nl) divider line

There are many villages around the world that have fights organized so as to allow their citizenry to release their anger. We must understand that people have urges. And these urges must be quenched.

But in healthy ways.

I love the sign. It means both "The police will take action" and "The Police will perform".

Makes me think of Irish fighting clubs from back before the great starvation.

I...only half want Gangs of New York-style club fights.

It's English but I don't understand it. Don't the cops just gas and beat people at a protest as a matter of course? Let God sort them out?

Paauw explains that citizens who were protesting peacefully at the time suddenly found themselves among violent offenders who were targeting the police. "A totally undesirable situation to which we as the police are already emphatically focusing our attention and will continue to invest in. If we have information about planned upcoming fights, we will break such plans or initiate a criminal investigation."

This is why sports exist.  Competition that doesn't involve the death/injury of multitudes.  Humans figured out a long time ago that you need some sort of competitive safety valve for the people that a little too in touch with their inner cave man

/yes, people do get hurt in sports
//but it's generally one, or a few
///and a lot less likely to kill you than a weapon in the hands of someone that's determined to fark you the hell up on the average
