Every Tesla getting outfitted with on-board Twitter, eh?

This is quite extraordinary.

No it isn't. We've been trying to tell you for years that Musk is a charlatan.

And now you want to cheer him into space.

They'll be recalling TFG to its ranks, I'm bracing for it.

It's a configuration change to stop people from setting the cards to make different sounds while it's being summoned. It's also being fixed via software update.

Of course, the companies who made cars that exploded for, like, no reason want you to focus on the number of cars being "recalled" instead of how great it is that it's literally fixed over the air.

Who cares. Recalls are a thing with damn near every car. The industry average is over one recall per unit sold.

December of 2020, Tesla rolled out the "Boombox" feature, allowing owners to customize various sounds throughout their cars, from the sound the car makes while driving to the horn's honk.

What

You're confusing a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) with a recall.  They are quite different.

Once they're self-driving, they will immediately and unstoppably change course to report to the nearest service center, refusing to let passengers off. Think Microsoft reboot.

No I'm thinking of recalls.

I think a recall means that the lawyers said we have to fix the defect in all the vehicles made with that part.
A TSB means the lawyers said we only have to fix it if the customer notices the problem.

Exactly. I get updates on my computer almost daily and have never called it a recall.  Calling an OTA update a recall is just stupid. Stupid enough that some Senator wants to outlaw them completely.

IMHO - if you don't have to go to a service center, it's not a recall.

Sadly, it's going to take a bunch of civilians dying in a SpaceX rocket before the world realizes Musk is a clown.

Musk is directly responsible for the quality control problems at Tesla, since he plays a huge role in the design, engineering, and marketing of the crappy cars.

Before Musk bought Tesla for $6 million, they had not built a single car. So the problems with every single car can be laid squarely at Musk's feet.

Shut down all musk enterprises.  Use an EO from Biden.

Problem solved.

You know it's a Tesla when it hits an emergency vehicle with its lights flashing.

You know it's a Tesla when the driver assist swerves toward people.

You know it's a Tesla when it'shiats a parked aircraft, after the CEO has announced full self-drive is coming "next year" again, while the company says it's not meant to be Level 5 autonomous rated.

No.

A recall is when NHTSA tells the mfgr to fix their shiat.

A campaign is when their lawyers tell them to fix their shiat before NHTSA gets involved.

A TSB is what tells the technicians how to fix the shiat.

Meanwhile my Volvo had a recall for a software glitch with the pedestrian safety system... which they couldn't fix with an over-the-air update for some reason.

The Boombox is the kind of feature you wouldn't even put in the car if you didn't have complete confidence in your OTA system.

2022-04-26 12:23:00 AM
So... they introduced a software feature that people were using in an unforeseen way, NHTSA didn't like it, and Tesla is complying by fixing it. This is about as non- as a non-issue can be.

It reminds me of when the Chinese government told Tesla that a chime should sound not just when adaptive cruise control is activated but also with regular cruise control. Tesla fixed it and Fark squawked about "275,000 Tesla vehicles recalled in China!"

Reasonable Criticism™

It's funny that on a left-leaning, relatively anti-Russian news aggregator site with an active Politics section that people are so ready and willing to actively participate in what is very obviously oil industry or ::dons tinfoil hat:: petrostate propaganda. For instance, RT was found to have run 89 different negative articles about Tesla in 2019. IIRC that's about 6 times as many articles as other outlets had about Tesla period.

My guess is his lawyer was telling him, just say "I don't recall."

And he said, Nuh Uh - I DECLARE RECALL!!!

Just getting people used to hearing about all the Teslas getting recalled again.

Poor quality, panel gaps you could lose a toddler into, and an auto drive function that's been "almost ready" since 2016.   At least they are making a really functional truck.

I'm glad that for all my faults I did not also become an Elon ass-flosser.  It would be a tough life to feel compelled to defend potato-man and his shiatty cars.

You can enjoy the flaking paint and poorly fit body panels. Many Tesla's have the fit and finish, including the paint quality, of a Lancia Beta.

I say that partially in jest, but only because it's tough to compete for worst car titles when you have the Beta, or Austin Allegro, or Lada.

Nobody mentioned him. I like how you guys think mentioning Elon Musk is a get out of jail free card for participating in the spread of obvious disinformation.

Clickbait. The article takes too long to get to the point that all of the recalls, save one affecting 7000 cars, were software updates and didn't require any service or action on the part of the owner.

The biggest Tesla recall was even more stupid in that the NHTSA concluded that the feature that allowed you to customize the horn sound and play sounds over the Pedestrian Warning System speakers should be removed. The NHTSA actually stated in their directive that the feature made the car even more conspicuous and generally improved pedestrian safety, but that the PWS regulations didn't consider the possibility of such a feature and thus it needed to be removed. A few days later, an over the air update propagated the change that disabled it.  Thus, every Tesla was "recalled" and "repaired" in peoples driveways while they slept, to remove a feature that the government said made the car safer, on account of a lack of regulation covering the feature. Dumb.
