Wow this production was a hot mess. A big factor in the whole clusterfark appears to be that the Armorer was hired to be a props assistant first and an Armorer second, mainly just to check a box, on a Western with a lot of gun stunts. Gabrielle Pickle, Gutierrez-Reeds' ultimate boss in some ways, is going to take a lot of blame for this as she is the one who was constantly telling Gutierrez-Reed off for attempting to be an Armorer instead of a Prop Assistant with the title of Armorer for insurance purposes. Pickle ordered a stop to safety training even though it there had already been TWO misfires because weapons from the 1800s are notorious for going off accidentally if jostled a bit and require a lot of training to handle safely. Holy crap, that production team is so guilty of negligent homicide.

On SNL? That was all softball shiat too, from what I've seen. All Baldwin did was portray him as kind of an idiot. They didn't go into his criminal activity or paying off the hooker or his ties with Epstein. SNL has lampooned Presidents since it started, often a lot worse. Trump and his minions seemed to be the only ones butthurt about it.

But seriously,

"Did they finish the movie or what?"

The whole affair?  Including the stuff that happened before the killing?  The stuff that happened and if the killing didnt happen, nobody would have known?  Sounds like the derp bait was the killing and if baldwin hadnt dangled the bait in the water, no derp fiah woulda taken the derp bait.

This whole affair is because baldwin used a gun with live rounds to kill a woman.  He could have avoided this whole derp fest by being safe.  I dont point weapons at people, and I aint an elite like baldwin.  Baldwin is an elite.  He should know better.  He did know better.  And yet he killed a woman.

FTFA: "Hannah Gutierrez-Reed reported to Sarah Zachary for direction on daily tasks; Sarah Zachary reported to Bryan Norvelle; Bryan Norvelle reported to Row Walters; and Row Walters reported to Gabrielle Pickle. Due to the nature of her position as the sole Armorer for Rust, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed regularly corresponded with Gabrielle Pickle directly via text messages and emails. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed performed armorer duties such as demonstrating that a firearm was "cold" or "hot," with Dave Halls. Dave Halls was also responsible for identifying and correcting hazardous conditions related to firearms safety."

Those 6 people, along with the top staff, including the director, are the ones who bear responsibility for the accident.  There's a big question mark still about the provenance of the round that was loaded and whether it was part of a mislabelled batch from a supplier, but it shouldn't matter because if all the other steps are followed properly, that round never makes it into that gun at that time.

Bottom line, Alec Baldwin is getting stitched up, both for being a lib, as well as a rich a-hole.

Whoops, should have been:

"Punishable by a fine" = "Legal for a price"

I know people who park their lambos in handicap spots with no consequence because the $400+ ticket is chump change to them.

rich people have the means and motive to protect themselves from consequences. non-rich people don't have the means.

It's not a conspiracy, it's the entirety of human history.

I mentioned this before, but I have worked on two productions that involved firearms (both TV pilots, neither got picked up). There were very, very strict rules about what had to happen when a scene involved guns.

The armorer should have been in the presence of that gun AT ALL TIMES. The AD is not responsible for calling a weapon cold, the armorer is. Live ammo should never, ever have been anywhere near that set. That pistol should have been checked about three times before Baldwin was even holding it, and not loaded until just before the cameras started rolling. The second the cameras stop, that gun should have been in the hands of the armorer.

And while we're at it: The gun should have been one that had been adapted to fire only blanks. They do this with chamber/cylinder inserts so real ammo won't fit, and they put tubes in the barrel so that no real bullets will come out (and for semi-autos, the higher pressure works the action).

Old revolvers are finicky all on their own. A relative owns an old Colt that will drop the hammer if shaken hard enough.

At no point should anyone have had access to the guns. They stay locked up or in the armorer's sight at all times. But here, some crew went out "plinking" that morning with them, shot live ammo (colossal WTF), and put the guns away loaded (huge no-no). Then when they go to rehearse the scene, someone who is not the armorer goes and gets the gun (huge WTF), gives it to another crew member who has no business holding it, after which that person declares to Baldwin that the gun is cold even though they never checked it (huge SMH).

The onus to make sure the gun was safe was not on Baldwin. He knows how these things are supposed to work a set. He probably should have refused a gun that wasn't coming from the armorer, though. He knows better than that. Or should, anyway. But not only should he not have open it and checked, he's probably been told all his career not to screw with the guns. Nobody wants to do a (possibly complex) reset because the actor was trying to "be safe" and the gun went click instead of bang.

Now why people were behind a camera when a gun was pointed at it, I don't know. I wouldn't feel comfortable with that, so I don't know why they weren't using a remote for that scene.

No, republicans were out for blood after this and it had nothing to do with his killing anyone. If Kelsey Grammer  did the same thing they'd be on his side. It was about Baldwin's anti-gun stance and his making fun of Trump.

leeksfromchichis: There's no politics here.

Depends what we are speaking about.    On one end there is the reality of what happened and how film sets are normally run.  Alec Baldwin is only guilty of hiring an incompetent armorer, not have a second person dedicated in that department, and hiring a first A.D. who cut safety protocols.

Then there also is how the insane right winger crowd took advantage of this tragedy because they were butthurt about Trump.

Saying there was no politics involved in this situation is ridiculous.  Tell us who you vote for without actually telling us.

Rev Rick White:

How would someone know what the MAGATs are saying unless they consume that brain poison? I only get news from AP, BBC, etc. Apart from British politics, the BBC especially is just the facts, jack:

Baldwin ran an unsafe set, put a hole through two people, one died, investigators are on it, and the maximum fine for killing people on set is apparently quite low.

Whatever your old high school classmates who stayed in their conservative rural towns are posting on Truth social at each other can stay there. This is the entertainment tab, not pol.
