Doesn't have anything to do with "the majority."   Public health supersedes what the goobers who don't want to wear masks or get vaccinated want.

Hmmmm
If only there were a word for forcing others to do things that one could do themselves......

at this point mandates are useless.
Get vaccinated and wear a mask.
It's so easy even I can do it.

💯

But.
Hear me out.

If a simple thing like a mask mandate can't be enforced.
Someone needs to explain why I have to follow any rule/law/command from my boss or a cashier or some other rando?

Seriously.

Also why is this push back coming from law and order types?

It's cool when an unqualified judge can simply declare the government can't protect people. I guess that "provide for the general welfare" part of the Constitution is optional, just like so many other parts.

*giggle* You think Republicans actually support law and order.

The majority of voters also want free college, raised minimum wage, abolishing private health insurance, and shifting the tax burden onto billionaires. But, you know, soshulism.

What "commands" do you follow from cashiers?

Polled, a majority of a small subset a voters polled by this company from that subset

Obviously people differ everywhere, I dont think this would be representative of the majority of people even in this liberalish part of NC(could be wrong)

"1,038 registered voters on April 17 and 18, using the Samplify online voter panel. Margins of error were on average about 3% but vary per question because the number of people who answered each question is different"

Well all of this infantile pissing and moaning certainly won't bite us in the ass the next time there's a pandemic.

We're going to need a (functional) congress to pass the "Pandemic Response Act" or whatever and actually codify the government's ability and responsibility to do these things.

Other than that you're going to keep having these mouth breathers, and whoever wants to manipulate them yelling about their freedumbs.

The federal government can't force the states to do much of anything is the end result here. Our backwards, 18th century political system once again shows that it can't operate effectively to address to 21st century problems.

No act of congress will change this paradigm. You need a change of constitution.

My mask won't work unless everyone else on the plan wears their masks. I could wear an additional mask to protect myself from everyone else on the plane, but who wants to wear 200 masks?

People are not wearing masks here and haven't in a while.  Covid came through here last November, 99.9 survived it just fine, was the flu with an under 100 fever for a day or two.

Peoples fear of life is just amazing

sorry, you're 180 degrees wrong here.

The Constitution clearly establishes the Fed's authority over the States, its literally  called "The Establishment Clause" no need to fix it.

The problem here is that there has been no act Congress here (i.e. a federal law) so we had a bunch of governors and two Presidents just issuing "Orders" that arguably might have been exceeding their authority.

We would, if everyone else would wear theirs. Why should we have to wear a mask when they don't?

If a majority favored it, then congress should vote to make it law and the POTUS should sign it into law. That'll never happen though because a majority of voters do not favor a mask/vaccine mandate.

Erm... the establishment clause typically refers to the freedom of religion in the 1st Amendment. You're thinking of the supremacy clause, which indeed says that in cases of conflict that the federal law "wins" but that doesn't give the federal government the right to pass any law they want. Take legal drinking age, for instance; a 21 year old drinking age can't be passed by the federal government because regulating alcohol consumption is not an enumerated power of the federal government. So, instead, they withhold highway funds from states that have a lower limit.

Same applies here. The federales government doesn't have an enumerated right to compel states to behave a certain way during a public health crisis. That is up to individual states to decide how to address. What the federal government can do is threaten to withhold funding for noncompliance. Unfortunately, we did the opposite during Covid, throwing money at states who were blatantly ignoring public health advice.

Well. I was being hyperbolic about the cashier part.
But.
Check the out. This just happened.
Had 7.00.
Went to the convenience store. Got a soda and chips. That left me with 2.12
Went to the local grocery store monopoly.  In the parking lot I got an extra 75 cents.
Entered the store with 2.87.
Got two 25oz budIce.
The self checkout said it was 2.97.
I gave it my 2.87.
It said I was short 25 cents.
I canceled the transaction.
It gave me 2.72.
This is when a light went off.
I tired to explain to the person supervising the self check out stands.
I was like it gave less than I put in.
She took my change and told me to give it the cash.
So. Still short.
Even after she put other change in there.
And....I'm like??????? I try again to explain.
She gets a manager.
Who puts more money and tells me to take my receipt and beer.
Okay.
Meh.

Okay.
So they would rather give me 2.97 in product than deal with the fact that the machine took my 10 cents.
I assume it's cheaper to pay me off. Than to admit their machine is stealing??????
Discuss.
Because they definitely told me nicely to GTFO.

The problem is that when most people decide whether or not to wear a mask, the question they ask themselves is not "Will wearing a mask keep me safe?" but rather "Would a person like me wear a mask?"

establishment / supremacy;  you're right on that one.

But the fricking preamble says "promote the general Welfare" is that's not public health, what is?

We just need a law that says it.

I'm sure the utility companies and landlords will accept non payment because of stay at home orders. I'm fully vaccinated so there is no reason I shouldn't be allowed to go out and earn a living. Much rather take the calculated risk than end up homeless

I love how people misread what I wrote .
The only reason there was a mandate of mask is because of the for mentioned individuals needed help with getting people to wear mask to begin with. It's disingenuous to ignore this fact to begin with.
Seriously.
The mandate is an attempt to help people enforce the procedures they're bring told to implement.  Jfc.

98.5% survived in Arizona, actually. Most of the deaths were conservatives who didn't believe in vaccines. Here's a reminder that it's also one of the states that flipped against Trump's 2nd term.

We're finished as a single, anything resembling democratic nation.  It's time to accept that reality and just split up into the three or four countries we really are.
