Gavin Newsome corruptly interfering in an investigation of Blizzard/Activision's blatant violations of fair labor law

Having endured a year or so of Blizzard's litigation activities myself, there's really not much the company won't do to win a case.

First line of article:

California's fancy-pants-Governor Gavin Newsom is again mired in controversy,

That's some grade-A journalism right there.

I have several friends who work, or worked, for Blizzard and the one consistent statement they all make is that their experience as a Blizzard employee is/was awful because the management cares more about protecting their fellow grabbyhanded shiatbags than they do about ensuring there's a safe workspace for those they employ.

Vote blue no matter who.  Even if it is Newsome.  They say that if you dont vote blue, things could be worse.  That newsome is the best we can possibly hope for.  So dont critisize him.  He was the best possible candidate for the job.  Nobody else, even a democrat could be better than him.

You can criticize him, but try to stick to reality. And I am sure you neither read the article (it's a stretch if I'm being generous) nor live in the Sunshine State... so start digging. The worst thing I can come up with is he's Half Scoop's Eskimo brother.

I live in the PG&E zone.  Where newsome gives pge a safety certificate each year so when they burn the place down, tax payers can pay for it.  You know, the convicted felon known as PG&E, that is on parole and was ordered to stop immolating people?  The ine that keeps immolating people while on parole.  And donates money to Newsome?

Meanwhile if any of us people made of meat were to keep burning people up, we would be in prison.

I always think of him as "Gov Hairdo", but I will examine these pants to determine whether to change names.

Okay, the Bloomberg article that this steals from (and to which subby probably should have linked instead) lays out the story, and yikes, it really makes the office of the governor look pretty bad. It sounds like they suddenly fired a major state lawyer for resisting government meddling into this case, and another lawyer resigned in protest and issued a rather scathing swipe against the governor's office.

2022-04-13 6:43:26 PM
And the one who was fired is looking into legal action due to whistle-blower protections.

There is so much to unpack about Blizzard's lawsuit that it would require a novella just to cover the broad overview.

The numerous missteps that have happened since, including their hiring a law firm that specializes in union busting (Hazzikosta's former employer), and that the two people they replaced the former CEO with had the woman half of the partnership paid about half of what they guy was getting while they're being sued for discriminatory employment practices towards women, being among them.

The original Bloomberg article did a decent job. This nonsense blurb linked to here did nothing.

Bloomberg is paywalled for me, but some context:

The lead lawyer for the Activision case that worked for the state prosecution abruptly quit from the case about a month ago without explanation.

The governor fired her from her state job a couple days later, again without public explanation.

Then someone else in her former office also quit in protest of her firing. That's what just happened.

Those two lawyers who quit say that the governor's office was interfering in the case "somehow".

Bloomberg says they have an email from Newsom's office asking to be updated about the case, including strategy and what they plan to do next. Those two lawyers say that this is suspicious and that it plays into the hands of Activision. The phrase they used was "mimicked the interests".

The governor's office denies interfering in the case.

Newsom in the past has demanded to have some influence over prosecutorial decisionmaking, such as with an EEO lawsuit against Tesla -- one of the regulatory straws that caused Elon Musk to bolt for Texas. So it could be part of a pattern of micromanagement... or something else.

The media has been speculating on what all this means.

Bloomberg has a paywall and needs to sell subs.
