Where is the outrage in "the base?"
Oh, it was all fake?
Pour a little one out for "support our troops."

/right on top of "the thin blue line."

Nobody hates the troops more than Republicans.

Remember when Republicans used to love capitalism and supported the troops?
Yeah, me neither.

Came here for this.  They don't give a shait about the troops except as a prop.  Yet vets vote for them even as they vote to cut their benefits.

So I guess there are no military bases in her district?

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said joining the military is like "throwing your life away"

I finally agree with something MTG said. I can already feel myself becoming more racist by the second. My spicy chips are starting to look like the burning pits of Hell.

as a result of President Biden's foreign policies... "they've been forced to take the vaccine and the ones that didn't want to take it have been discharged. Who wants to be treated that way? The woke training, where they have to undergo this ridiculous ideology of the sick and satanic left,"

Nevermind! She's as crazy as ever.

Good, you probably don't want anyone who would take her seriously joining the military in the first place.

Remember when trump didn't call the family of the dead serviceman until he was shamed into it and then talked about himself the whole call and people said he "must of known what he signed up for"?

Good times. Sign me up for that, sergeant.

I never saw any bases around Bedrock?  Maybe out by the quarry.

I helped stop a genocide. I have moments where I struggle with some PTSD, but I have never, not for one single second, felt like I had thrown that time away, or, despite the abundance of "hurry up and wait", that my time in the USAF was not worthwhile. If we're being honest, I joined because I couldn't afford college any other way, and I wish people could get educations without risking their lives or deploying... but still, I helped more people in my four year enlistment than these self-centered little assholes like MTG and Gaetz have ever, or will ever, help.

"We're going to fight a Third World country for two decades and walk out with our tail between our legs,'" Dobbs added. "Who in his or her right mind would say, 'Sign me up for that, Sarge'?"

That's exactly what we said 20 years ago, and you said we were cowardly traitorous islamocommies.

I was forced to take about a dozen different vaccines when I went in, and that was three decades before I'd ever heard the word COVID.

I guess the Navy was woke before woke was cool.

As I said previously, but it  bears repeating.

None of these MAGAt faithful served. They just co-opt the trappings and symbology of the military and patriotism to represent their own self-centered bigoted worldview. Ironically, joining the service is sometimes the only way out of the backwoods shiatholes these people are born in. Those that don't get out are doomed to a self-perpetuating cycle of poverty and ignorance and bitterness that leads to being a magat faithful.

Heck, IIRC even the groups who originally came up with the word have abandoned it (probably because the republican-holes have made the term meaningless).

NO.  Don't ignore her.  Stop telling people to ignore farking Nazi recruiters.

That's exactly what she's doing: RECRUITING FOR MILITIAS.

If she can keep young people from going into the official armed forces she can redirect them to MAGA and Q-nut squads.

Additionally it may deplete forces that could be used in Europe to stabilize the area. IOW she's doing Russia's bidding.

So no, DON'T IGNORE farkING VILLAINS.

Trump's family has managed to be in this country since WW1 w/o sending a single person to the military. But I'm sure it is just a coincidence and not that they have, over the generations, told every kid that it is a waste and that service is for the poors.

Also, for some people the military offers some structure and discipline at a time in their lives where they are in danger of making poor life choices.

We've come full circle and right-wingers have started using it positively to refer to people who follow their same conspiracy theories.

Some did. But they also recruit veterans to train them and teach them how to be able to carry out their terroristic threats.

Hopefully I don't miss tell the history completely, but it's my understanding that it first came about during sundown town days.  Black folks would tell each other "stay woke if you're going to xyz". That's what woke meant originally.

Now racists think it means "not being an asshole" and have completely hijacked its use

I don't think Republicans were ever pro-military. They were pro military funding. Have the farking budgets of red states are providing weapons and ammo equipped day care for their best and brightest.

But the thing is, the actual reason to have a good US Military is the situations happening right now. Democracy isn't free. World stability isn't free, and enforcing international norms isn't free.

At this point the republicans are just in the "trash everything norm, standard and institution". If it sounds good to someone who likes meth and hates humanity, they will say it.

flypusher713: Also, for some people the military offers some structure and discipline at a time in their lives where they are in danger of making poor life choices.

That is a huge factor for a lot of enlisted people.  It was for me.  I grew up in a red neck town with nothing other than red-neck futures if I stayed there.   College wasn't going to work from either a financial or "take it seriously" standpoint.   All I wanted was to GTFO of town and see the world, and I got that in spades.   I also got a bunch of life lessons ingrained in me that still work today.   Shiat like "be on time, asshole" and "being on time doesn't mean you're walking in the door at the bell, it means you're ready to work at the bell" and "being hung over isn't an excuse to skip what you're supposed to be doing."

As a result of all that, when I finally did roll into hallowed halls of higher education, I knocked that shiat out of the park.

2022-04-13 3:28:21 PM
Uh, most of the people who join have nowhere else to go. Been that way for a long time, thanks to republican policies.

All I took away from that was the military offering $50,000 enlistment bonuses. Can I get one of those? I already enlisted twice for free.

They're pro defense spending, not military spending. Two different things, and one of the very few things Ron Paul has ever said that made sense. We can fund the taking care of our troops without giving away hundreds of billions in corporate welfare to giant defense corporations.

I feel like there's two groups of people who would say this.

The type of person who would spray paint on a recruitment billboard "don't kill people for the government! don't die for oil companies!"

Or the type of person who says "Don't join the military! Join the 45th Tennesseean frog fondlers for Christ instead! They're the ones who will really prepare you for what's coming *WINK*"

Fairly normal easy to guess which end of the spectrum she lands on.
