The power of advertising, i mean propaganda, cannot be overestimated.

Even the space aliens should be concerned......

So, we have actual events in stadiums that celebrate physical prowess and violence. Sports, fighting, monster trucks...

And Romans surely had street vendors, some of which no doubt had 10 or so people waiting to buy food, I'm sure.

Seems like you may be comparing the wrong things.

I am surprised virtual concerts aren't a thing yet.  Imagine a live concert, but one of the best seats in the house has a 360 deg camera and mic rig (presumably with the mic to pick up seat sound only, with a direct feed from the stage for optimal quality the remote user can mix as desired) to re-create the experience from that position for as many people as have VR gear, a good Internet connection, and a willingness to pay for it?

FTFA: This is a story about McDonald's, trademarks, and the metaverse

Third, you can't simply register trademarks for every possible use in order to reserve them or exclude competitors. Instead, you have to show that you actually are using them for the purposes you claim. In practical terms, you get four years (including extensions) to provide the evidence. . .  This tells us that there's a very good chance that McDonald's actually envisions hosting these kinds of virtual events under its name by February 2026--four years from filing.

No.  It means that if the technology and market for such products comes to exist in the next 4 years, McDonalds will be able to actually use those trademarks.  If not, they'll let the 2022 registrations lapse and re-register the same marks in 2026, in anticipation of the possibility that the technology and market will exist sometime between 2026 and 2030.  Etc.

McDonalds isn't the kind of company to innovate.  It's the kind of company that will step into an existing space when the conditions are right.  This is just planning ahead for the possibility that the virtual space will be ripe for doing business in in the next 4 years.

Farking Clown Shoes: FTFA: This is a story about McDonald's, trademarks, and the metaverse

Everyone likes to rag on McDonald's, but their salads were actually decent and fairly priced. So what did my local McDonald's quit carrying? Salads.

So they need to make lots of money in the metaverse, because they aren't making any more from me IRL.

What am I supposed to do with a virtual cold french fry delivered in 30 min to my virtual sim?

Can somebody please explain this all to me? Wtf do we need a virtual restaurant? Do you eat the food in real life while you wear some headset to envelop yourself in this metaverse? I actually don't understand this at all. Is it just another way to order delivery?

These are plans that would have been impossible to predict just a few years ago.

Have you been living under a rock? Everything has been moving towards the online/virtual world for 20 years now. There's literally no surprise that restaurants are moving in that direction. I'll make a prediction right now, within 10-20 years the drive-through will have become a thing of the past. It'll be replaced with a curbside system where you order on an app and they bring it out to your car.

2022-04-10 12:23:00 PM
See, I was playing The Division 2 lately and was thinking there was a decided lack of McDonald's.

I guess corporate sponsorships of post-apoc and dystopian landscapes are few and far between if we consider the Cluckin Bells, Nuka-Colas, and Vladov.

It the future, we will all wear VR headsets 24/7. We will have a tube in our mouth and another in our ass.
When we reach peak capitalism, the tube will be a loop

They need to 'stake out' some VR/Inline Games property rights before some twerp from New Jersey does it and says their stealing his stuff. McD is doing like a virtual store tho instead of link to the menu and hit order.
I remember PizzaHut had inline game purchases for pizza delivery for some game quite a while back.

Uzzah: McDonalds isn't the kind of company to innovate.

Now I think more about it. They were one of the first to do in house touch screen order 'kiosks', Toys with Kids Meals, Dual Lane drive throughs, Apple Pies, Filet-O-Fish, Custom Built Coke/Soda machines that ran the product line through the ice hoper so it held CO2 better, DIY refill stations, The Shake Machines, "Breakfast and Lunch" change over, the Egg McMuffin. Look hate'em if you want to, but they didn't get to where they are being dumb.
Ruthless maybe, but not dumb.

We're a bit far from simulating the pheromone reek of a good concert, or the bone shaking of a half megawatt sound system.

Admittedly,
In 10 years we'll probably all have to laugh at the idea that we're sitting in a virtual car after having driven the same distance that we could cross to actually drive there - while sitting in a virtual pickup line.

For me, it's the McChickenTM. The best fast food sandwich. I even ask for extra McChickenTM sauce packets and the staff is so friendly and more than willing to oblige.

One time I asked for McChickenTM sauce packets and they gave me three. I said, "Wow, three for free!" and the nice friendly McDonald's worker laughed and said, "I'm going to call you 3-for-free!".

Now the staff greets me with "hey it's 3-for-free!" and ALWAYS give me three packets. It's such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local McDonald's restaurant, I go there at least 3 times a week for lunch and a large iced coffee with milk instead of cream, 1-2 times for breakfast on the weekend, and maybe once for dinner when I'm in a rush but want a great meal that is affordable, fast, and can match my daily nutritional needs.

I even dip my fries in McChickenTM sauce, it's delicious! What a great restaurant.

I think it'll be great and provide a lot of job opportunities.
How it will work: You virtually drive to McD's in your virtual car and place an order. Then a poor person in real life goes to McD's and brings your food to you.

I can't wait for the debate on tipping with NFTs.

The 70's weed use. Was why Mc D's, Pizza hut, and Waffle house really took off in College towns and suburbs.
Sure, they tried to frame it as 'helpful to busy house wife'. But then again that 'busy house she was doing speed and liquid percocets.

My local Arby's has closed indoor dining for the past 10 months due to staffing shortages, yet every time I go by there are 15 vehicles in the drive-thru.  Nothing surprises me anymore.

Yeah, we're regressing back to drive-in restaurants with car-hops. Only a matter of time before the workers are all forced to wear roller skates again to shorten delivery time.

E-sports have had them for a while, and twitch exists. Unless you are super excited to see how TickectOverlord can break in and start charging you $150 to watch a 2 hour stream, I don't really hope e-concerts ever take off, just so TicketBastard doesn't find a way to fleece more money from a rigged system.
