Tesla Cyber Rodeo: Giga Texas Can Hold '194 billion hamsters' and Cybertruck News.

So how much is that in bananas, washing machines, and or whoppers?

Here's what we learned about Tesla's plans for the new Cybertruck and Model Y and just how many hampsters the new Gigafactory can hold.

Seriously, what the hell is a "hampster?" That blog has, like, 4 editors, including a "quality editor," so...

I think I saw this on Youtube. They're just a vulnerable design point that Starfighters can fly up and destroy the Tesla Death Stars like Adam Ant in that supervillain movie.

Elon Musk's new stretch goal is to colonize Mars with 194 billion hamsters in preparation for human colonisation.

They'll take care of the terra-forming by forming a giant hamster based ecology in the Mars Hamster Trails(TM).

Yet you missed the opportunity to share your opinion about a similar comment, not by me, in the hedgehog thread yesterday? It's not locked, there is still time.

It's an urban fairytale it was a hamster; urban legend has it as a gerbil.

Which you can't buy, own, or carry in California, they are seen as pests.   You need a federal license.

"Oh, no!  A license!  What is a person supposed to do now?"

I think "owning an unlicensed gerbil" and getting away with it is probably among the easiest crimes to commit.

/ and then I learn about the mobile gerbil detection vans....

In that case, I'll need a fish license. For my pet fish, Eric.
He's annnnn... Halibut
Picked him ou of thousands.  All the rest were too flat.

"According to our calculations, you could fit a hundred and ninety-four billion hamsters in this building."

How much space do 194 billion hamsters take up?

Some back-of the envelope math (please correct any errors you spot):

Let's assume we're building a cube of hamsters.

Cube root of 194 billion is... 5,789 (to the nearest whole). So 5,789 hamsters per edge.

How big is each hamster though?

Assuming these are common pet hamsters (i.e. golden (Syrian) hamsters, Wikipedia gives us the following:

The size of adult animals is around 6 in (15 cm) long, with a lifespan of 2-3 years.

Though inhumane, we'll shove our hamsters into a 6"×6"×6" cube.

5,789 hamsters times 6 inches equals 34,734 inches on each edge. Dividing by 12, we get 2,894.5 feet per edge.

Let's compare this to the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. The Burj Khalifa is 2,722 feet tall.

Our hamster cube is 172.5 feet taller than the Burj Khalifa... in every dimension.

Arranged one layer deep, 194 billion hamsters would cover a square 42 miles on a side, roughly the size of Rhode Island.

And based on this, from Wikipedia:

Body mass is usually in the range of 100-150 grams (3.5-5.3 oz), but Syrian hamsters from private breeders can be in the range of 175-225 grams (6.2-7.9 oz).

We'll call our average hamster 6 oz in weight.

This meams our hamster horde weighs... roughly 36 million tons. In comparison, the Great Pyramid of Khufu weighs about 6 million tons. So, six of those.

TLRD? Elon Musk is full of shiat.
