Hopefully next year he doesn't have to do it all himself. I can't wait to see what this team can be with Jamal Murray and MPJ back healthy.

The only player who came close in all three cats was Wilt, who was off by a few points twice.   Wilt was ahead on rebounds and assists but just "short" on points in a couple seasons.   Amazing.

I'm usually not a fan of the big boys because it's almost like cheating... however, him and Joel and Giannis... man, can they play ball. Jokic is really something to behold when he's having a good night, which is almost every night.

Jokic is amazing and lots of fun to watch. But this is the NBA, so I expect posts on how he sucks because he can't win rings, and if he does win rings, I expect posts on how he sucks because he can't win enough rings.

That's just for when he gets accolades.

Without Murray and Porter, they have already exceeded my expectations.  But no, this team without those players isn't going to last in the playoffs.  Even if both were to come back for the playoffs, I couldn't see them being effective with so much time off.

Playing pick-up games in heaven, I'd let the other side have all the old-timers from LeBron James on back and use contemporary players like Giannis, Embid, Jokic, Morant, Steph Curry, and Durant.

Well, statistics pretty definitively show that having one player with an extremely high usage rate almost guarantees not winning a championship.

The top twenty usage rate seasons of all time have a grand total of zero championships.

EDIT:  I typed this out thinking of Doncic, not Jokic.  Damnit.

Lebron is an old-timer? What year is this?

Here's an interesting stat:

Lebron James Career Playoff Averages - 28.7 pts, 9 rebounds, 7.2 assists.
Jokic Career Playoff Average - 25.9 pts, 11.3 rebounds, and 6.4 assists.

I mean, he's been in the NBA for 19 years.

There will be guys drafted next year who weren't alive when he started his NBA career.

First round. They've been tough all year and I hope I'm wrong, but the Nuggets are out of gas. Joker has carried this team without Jamal Murray and MPJ valiantly, but in the end he's still human. OTOH, the expectations for this year were muted when it became clear Murray wouldn't be back.

2022-2023...game on.

/Go Nuggets!
//Someone tell Embiid who says 'I don't know what I have to do' to win the MVP that he has to eclipse 2000 points, 1000 rebounds and 500 assists.
///Also, he might look further than the east coast. Most of the best pro sports is being played west of the Mississippi.

The NBA has been this west heavy for a long time. You could say that it started with Jordan making Barkley go out west to sniff the finals. We saw something similar with Lebron in the east. It was Lebron and a bunch of teams that weren't going to the finals.

The thing I probably like most about Jokic's game is that it's not predicated on freakish athletic ability, unless you count tall, but that's not exactly special in the NBA.  But he isn't fast, doesn't have great leaping ability.  It's mostly cunning.

Eh, there's a legit MVP argument for any of the three (Jokic, Embiid, and Giannis).

This is definitely a cool stat line, especially being the first to do it.  But you could gather stats to support the other two as well.

LeBron was my first thought in this as well.   He led teams in all three cats at least four time, and they made it to the Finals as well, but he never came close to 1000 rebounds, even when leading his teams.   Every other player who took 1000 rebounds and nailed 2000 points was no one near 500 assists in any of those seasons.   All that came close were centers except LeBron.

The best comps for a season like this are Wilt and Hakeem.   That's rare air.

Lol I looked up the most rebounds in a season 'cause I was gonna try to find the non-centers with more than 1000 rebounds in a season and this was too funny not to share

Not to take anything away from two great players but there were a lot more missed shots when those guys were playing.

Your comment reminds me of "The White Shadow" tv episode when Bill Russell was a guest star. Coolidge asked Bill Russell about his 51-rebound game. Bill responded saying something along the lines of "well, there were a lot of misses that night."

E_Henry_Thripshaws_Disease: why are almost ALL white dudes in the NBA, Eastern Europeans? I'd honestly like to know

Are you sitting down for this?  Maybe, just maybe, there might be a genetic component to athletic performance.

https://www.primesworld.com/top-20-white-nba-players-right-now/

Nine of the 20 are Eastern Euros, which is disproportionate.

The issue is - like any race-based statistic - so what?  Should the league ban non-Eastern European white players?  Should GMs not draft non-Eastern Euros?  You could try that, but for the league to do it would be stupid, illegal, and unprofitable.  The GMs could do it, but then they'd miss out on the Gordon Haywards and Tyler Herros and Steven Adams' of the world.  So ultimately, it's notable, but of questionable utility for decision-making.

/now just swap out "the league" for the public actors and GMs for private actors.

OR:

The USSR and the Soviet Republics (and Yugoslavia) have a much more consistent history of playing men's basketball. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Olympic_medalists_in_basketball

Basically, most medal winners until the split of the USSR (and Yugoslavia) were: US, USSR, Yugoslavia. Everyone else might have a lucky Olympiad and snag a medal, but those were the contestants every year.

Then the countries split. The best four teams in the world behind the US were: Serbia (banned from the '92 Olympics because genocide), Croatia (silver), Lithuania (bronze), Russia (4th place that year).

Then, when their players could start playing in the NBA, it was Sabonis (Lithuanian). Kukoc (Croatian). Marciulionis (Lithuanian). Petrovic (Croatian). Divac (Serbian). Similarly to how basketball was viewed as a way out of the ghettoes of the US, it was a way out of the widespread poverty of those former Soviet states for people that weren't playing hockey. The former Yugoslavia was ripped up by wars and basketball is a cheap sport to play that doesn't require a lot of space (also what makes it great for inner cities).

Today's stars from that region, no surprise: Jokic (Serbian), Doncic (Slovenian), both from what used to be Yugoslavia.

It's part of why...yeah, the Dream Team was the best...BUT they also got made to look even better by having BOTH of their biggest rivals destroyed by international politics before 1992.

E_Henry_Thripshaws_Disease: why are almost ALL white dudes in the NBA, Eastern Europeans? I'd honestly like to know

Because basketball is popular in their culture. So more people play. More people playing means it's more likely than an outlier (someone really good at basketball) shows up.

Same reason there are better soccer players coming from most European countries than there are in the US.

My point was that there are a large number of fantastic players right now. Really, really recently right now. I had to cut the line somewhere and fortunately Steph Curry is younger than LeBron because, not being insane, I wouldn't want to exclude Steph Curry from my team. These kinds of things are arbitrary anyway.
