Despite the availability of life-saving COVID-19 vaccines, so many people died in the second year of the pandemic in the U.S. that the nation's life expectancy dropped for a second year in a row last year, according to a new analysis.

Thank social media for that

Surprisingly, while the 2020 drop in life expectancy hit Blacks and Hispanics hardest, that wasn't the case in 2021, the analysis found. Life expectancy among Hispanics didn't significantly change between 2020 and 2021, and life expectancy of Blacks actually inched up slightly - by a little less than half a year.
In contrast, the life expectancy of whites fell by about a third of a year, mostly among white men

Republicanism is a virus. The sooner we accept this and respond accordingly, the better this country will be.

So...purposely get infected by it because we think horse medicine will cure us if we get properly ill? Sorry, I'm american, I don't know how to deal with viruses unless Facebook influencers tell me what to do.

Injecting bleach will prevent and cure the disease 100% of the time.

I prefer the apple flavoring, but sometimes there's a run on Ivermectin.

Wait, I'm supposed to be surprised by the fact that the assholes whining and screaming the loudest and losing their goddamn minds over  common sense pandemic behavior are the ones dying en masse now that vaccines are widely available?

Have the hospitals require voter registration for intake.  Kick the republicans to the curb and give single payer health care to democrats.  Make third party people pick a hole.

Problem solved.

Don't be so glib. You know good and damn well Americans love their bloodlust. When we speak of treating Republicans as a virus, we don't mean accepting corona into our bodies, nor do we mean to say that we should become infected with Republicanism. No, we speak these things to mean we should do unto others before they do unto us.

Metaphorically speaking, of course. Because plotting politicide of your opponents is a very unamerican trait and is not to be tolerated one whit. In fact, what we should instead be doing is preemptively treating anti-American values such as those with unmitigated violence, preferably at the edge of a sword made of the bones of our enemies. The ones of color, so it's extra ironic.

I know it's hard to keep all this straight. It is very difficult to be an American these days, what with ungendered bathrooms to tell us whether it's okay to use the urinal to take a shiat.

Allow insurers to raise rates and deny medical coverage for vaccine hesitant without a medical waiver.  Allow hospitals to check financials before admitting folks without proof of vaccination.  Do now allow Covid debt to be discharged in bankruptcy.

Hell they've become such a racist caricature of themselves that I'm starting to wonder if art forces life to imitate it.

I mean is there any level of depravity a repub won't commit at this point? Is there any cruel or hateful action a repub could do that wouldn't just be typical of them?

Fark that, create a new chapter that rewraps incurred medical debt as an instantly callable asset for payment in full. Send them straight to the pauper's house or grave, whichever is quickest. Allow creditors to pick through the bones before heirs, cash, securities, wills and trusts, even pierce the corporate veil to gnaw at those assets too. Any and everything hostile to the debtor and allows the creditor to be made whole at the quickest disposal.

Thats a good start.  And a good compromise.

But we need to eliminate maga.  By mandating the hospitals deny them care like they deny science, we speed up the process.  We have 12 years until climate change is irreversable.  We need drastic measures.  Not measures that will take a century to have even a partial effect.  We need Biden to do what is required to eliminate maga and save Our Democracy.  We are all in this together.

Yep. Small town America has been getting systematically destroyed and the people doing the destruction have gaslighted their victims into thinking the people trying to help them are their enemies.

To be fair the victims are in fact morons. Anyone with any brains GTFO's out of rural America as soon as they get the chance. That leaves the stupid behind, and our shiatty system, that values land more than people, magnifies their power,

I liked the article you linked, thanks! I actually looked up Antlers, OK.

In summary, their findings aren't going to surprise anyone who hasn't been living under a rock for the past thousand years though. Racism.

The article links to other scientific studies about white republican's feelings of "loss of social status." Social status being essentially "control over others." These rural whites' lives visibly improved under Obama's presidency, but that doesn't matter because they still lost more control over black people.

Why are white, rural/suburban, republicans angry? Because black people are gaining more and more equality. That's all it is.

Difficulty: would you want to sleep with someone who would normally consider a Republican an acceptable sexual partner?

No, it hasn't. Only when hospitals are able to turn people away at the Emergency Room to die in the streets will they feel they succeeded.

The people they write about are those who can't actually move into the present, but continue to believe that just dragging the nation back to a time when things were great (for whites) would fix everything.

Which explains why they are now so on board for being willing to support dictatorial types in power.  They want people in power who use said power to disadvantage and remove rights from those they consider inferior and not worthy of said rights.

I live in the 2nd Congressional District in Iowa. In 2020 the R candidate won by 8 (eight) votes. Do you think more than 8 more Rs died than Ds in the last two years in this congressional district? Why, yes I do. I think a lot more Rs than Ds died in this congressional district.

Now, this is where you all get to laugh at me. I think the Rs will not take back the House or the Senate in 2022. I think they've killed off their constituency.

While the bolded part may be true, you have to factor in that Republicans will be cheating extra hard to make up for their lost numbers, and they very well may get away with it in many places.

Also never underestimate the American citizenry's ability to wander off and not vote for their interests thinking they solved everything by electing a president.

The average America doesn't realize how much all the other positions on the ballot matter. All the way down to city council.

This is what Republicans voted for.

And a lot of people just as stupid as them didn't bother voting at all because "it doesn't matter who runs the country."

So ... (shrug), if you only vote once every 4 years or vote Republican, this is what you wanted. All this. You wanted it because you didn't give enough of a fark to elect the people hoping to prevent it.

~66.1% percent of Americans voted last go round.  If the remaining ~33.9% had all voted for the same person that person would have won the popular vote by about 80,000 votes.
