Dems better build back Build Back Better before bloodbath in November

Strategy could be to show Manchin as the poster child of why there needs to be more Democrats voted in to the Senate.  They can point to the House passing legislation left and right, but the Dems are ultimately two senators away from doing what the country needs because no GOP will cross the aisle unless the bill will pass anyway for political expediency (ala Romney, Collins, and Murkowski).

2022-04-04 7:43:11 PM
Democrats see Manchin as ready to negotiate more than three months after he went on Fox News and rejected their last plan. But in typical Manchin form, the conservative Democrat is staying coy about how serious prospects are for an agreement.

"Really, I can't give you a reading on it, if there's anything serious about this. You have chatter, and we talk to everybody. And there's nothing serious," Manchin said in an interview. Asked if that will change, he replied: "It could. After next week, we'll see, after the judge and all that, maybe things will pick up."

So why bother?

From what I remember he doesn't want money going to poor families, he doesn't want to raise taxes on the rich to pay for anything, he doesn't want children to get too used to eating food...

Bring it back for discussion while his daughter is waiting for her court date; see how charitable he feels then.

STOP PUTTING YOUR UTTER INEPTITUDE AND WEAKNESS ON DISPLAY.

But rather than a redux of the slow-motion collapse of that $1.7 trillion plan, they say they'll swiftly meet Manchin where he is.

Oh, nevermind. Getting your asses handed to you is clearly your kink. Dipshiats.

Better move quick, likely not even Joe Manchin is going to have the power to pass something like BBB after November.

There's nothing you can give Manchin for this to pass, because the only thing he wants is for this bill not to pass.

"You either do it before Memorial Day or you're not going to do it," said Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), who is close to Manchin.

Sounds familiar.

Also, has Manchin caved on anything in the past two years? As far as I can see, the Democrats just keep offering him more and more stuff and demanding nothing in return. That's more a hostage negotiation than anything.

By the time they can whittle this bill down to anything Manchin would vote for, it'll be so heinously skewed toward helping the rich and harming the poor that not passing it would actually become the better option.

Manchin (D-W.Va.) is open to a smaller bill focused on raising taxes on the rich and big corporations married with prescription drug reform and climate spending, which would be a significant accomplishment if it actually gets to Biden's desk. He wants roughly half of any new revenues from the bill to go toward deficit reduction, and Democrats say that - if they can pass the package - they'll sell it this fall as a cost-cutting law that makes the wealthy pay their fair share.

In a sane world, meeting this farker where he previously agreed would work. It would also be worth doing as long as you got something you could campaign on.

But in this world he's just as likely to change his mind again, with yet another bullshiat excuse again, and then farkers will complain about the entire party rather than focusing their anger on the one old wealthy white guy who keeps screwing things up.

Its not going to be a blood bath.

The dems will keep the senate.

And if they lose the house it will be by a slim margin (im seeing 10 seats but we will see.) im also 50/50 the dems will keep the house but barely.

Maybe this time they'll build the bill around what he says he can support instead of just trying to "pressure" him to change his mind months after he laid out what was wrong with the bill to start with.

More salient point...did we waste our chance for a reconciliation bill last fiscal year? Or can we pass this and one more before the Republicans take congress? Need to move fast in either case.

The original bill had all those problems such as giving money to poor kids instead of coal energy, paying for itself, not giving enough attention to Manchin...

I am constantly amused at how Eeyore became an adjective on Fark. Especially since everything I've been called an Eeyore over, I've turned out to be 100% right.

More likely, they'd meet him where he is, just in time for Sinema to make some outrageous and impossible to reconcile demand, just to say it's not him who sinks it.

UltimaCS: The original bill had all those problems such as giving money to poor kids instead of coal energy, paying for itself, not giving enough attention to Manchin...

He initially said his problem was that it cost too much, and he wanted it to be less inflationary. So they came back with a bill that ran the programmes for three years instead of ten to get the cost down. He called them "budget gimmicks" and said that the bill needed to have good programmes that run the full ten years instead of hiding the cost by kicking the can down the road for a future congress to extend. They ignored him on that point and then rammed through the bill under the thought they could "pressure" him to change his mind. He didn't, and then people acted like he was a traitor and a turncoat when he was consistent the entire time.
