Not the one I'm thinking of; it isn't a replica of SAP Arena with a "Sharks in Six!" banner.

I got high last night on LSD
My mind was beautiful, and I was free
Warts loved my nipples because they are pink
Vomit on me, baby, yeah yeah yeah

A blind man's penis is erect because he's blind
It's erect because he's blind, it's erect because he's blind
A blind man's penis is erect because he's blind
It's erect because he is blind

How come no one at the cemetery noticed this being installed? I mean it's not like they just dropped in a tombstone. This had to have taken at least a couple days.

I met a traveller from an antique land,Who said-"Two vast and trunkless legs of stoneStand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,Tell that its sculptor well those passions readWhich yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;And on the pedestal, these words appear:My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!Nothing beside remains. Round the decayOf that colossal Wreck, boundless and bareThe lone and level sands stretch far away."

Probably nobody really gave a shiat until somebody wrote an article (which was Greenlit here) about it in one of the UK tabloids about it a few days ago, and then Somebody Important read the article, and they asked their underlings to check and see if there was a law against it, and there was.

It's also worth noting that this guy was a Traveler and had a funeral apparently attended by hundreds if not thousands of people, and so maybe nobody wanted to piss them off.

Isn't it awfully nice to have a penis?
Isn't it frightfully good to have a dong?
It's swell to have a stiffy
It's divine to own a dick
From the tiniest little tadger
To the world's biggest prick
So, three cheers for your Willy or John Thomas
Hooray for your one-eyed trouser snake
Your piece of pork, your wife's best friend
Your Percy, or your cock
You can wrap it up in ribbons
You can slip it in your sock
But don't take it out in public
Or they will stick you in the dock
And you won't come back

"Rules set out by Sheffield City Council's bereavement service state memorials must be under 3ins (75mm) thick and no taller than 4.4ft (1.35m)"

This may be just a smidge over.

"We understand memorials are deeply personal, however we must have rules in place to ensure fairness."
Because it is not fair for some people to be more dead than others.

From another article:
But Mr Collins' widow, Kathleen, told The Star: "We own the land and we do have planning permission.
It's not unusual for families to buy multiple plots for future inhabitance!

Also from the other article:
The dad of nine moved to Sheffield from Ireland in 1980 and became known as "Big Willy".

This. seriously this was anything but a small trucking pulling up and placing a small headstone like the one described in the article.  Should have been exceedingly obvious something out of the ordinary was going down.

I really do have to wonder if this was what the dearly departed wanted and how much money was spent on it.

My late great uncle John went a bit overboard with his only sons grave, he wanted to put a large granite slab behind the grave featuring his sons favorite prayer and bible verse. Dang thing was made and placed in the cemetery. Not sure who in the parish got into a hissy fit about it being a trip hazard. He offered to pay for a fence around, they said no. He had it removed and placed in his brother's garage.

It is a public cemetery and the only time some one will be on-site is to dig a hole or mow the grass, and with council budget cuts cutting the grass in a cemetery isn't a funding priority.

It is the sort of place were weeks can go by before anyone with any authority or responsibility will be there.

Could be a family plot - space reserved for the burial of a group of family members, paid for in advance. It's quite common.

I meant on the level of the one pictured in the article. The ones I think you're talking about are definitely tacky, but this one qualifies for so bad it's good.

Not since the Caesars has any one piled so much kitschy kampy krap in one place, excepting the Czars, the Kaisers and some third world dictators.

But if he didn't build on somebody else's burial plots, bad taste is not a crime. Reminds me of the grave monument erected by cockney hustler, Del Trotter, in Only fools and horses.

So we agree that there are already quite a few people doing it. Most are limited to a 20-foot spire or a couple of statues. This one is notable in its scale.

If I had that kind of budget, I'd include several different weeping angels... only one on site at any one time, though.

I could not find the "improved" grave, which makes this monument look restrained which is a pity, because it is breath-takingly fugly.

Kudos for this post, Pert, the Google Fu is strong in this one.

If I were to have some sort of greek statues at my gravesite, I wouldn't have random greek statues. Instead I would have four or five statues whose torsos were copies of the four or five hottest men I ever had sex with.

My tombstone would say something like:

"That's right! I've been there!   :: breathes on fingernails... polishes them on shirt front ::"
