"Metamates" sounds either like a dating app for Gen Z'ers or how a fast food restaurant chain would refer to its lowest-ranking employees thinking a cute name would bolster spirits.

If I were looking for a modern job, I would go to a company like Rivian where their stock price has been completely beat down, but they are well-funded and have been hiring like mad.

Places like Meta are full of olds, anyway.  A lot of their employees are Millenials who were born in the early eighties and will be getting invitations to join AARP within the decade.

I like how the article starts with inane nonsense, but then gets to actual facts later on.  It's like the Post does hire real journalists, but they have to start every article with several paragraphs of sensationalism to get past the full-on derper editors.

- Meta gives RSUs, not stock options: there is no "underwater" as there is no strike price.  It's worth less, but it's not worth zero
- Their stock price slide didn't "start" cause of last year's leaks - the stock kept going up after those leaks occurred.  The market didn't care.  The slide is entirely due to them missing earning expectations in February

Second Life 2.0 that requires hundreds in spending to participate in and offers no real benefits while artificially making some things more complicated is a failure?

Quelle surprise!

I'm interested in the virtual cities, towns, and other municipalities they'll build.  "Metamucils" for short.

Sounds like a lawsuit in the offing, almost.

Right now all they have is concept art, or what they call "metastatics."

Good hopefully meta will die soon enough and become the next myspace, but that has been hard since Zuckerbot buys all his competition and makes them his.

Russia wasn't providing funding for a $0.5 trillion market cap.  They were providing *content* that created a $1.1 trillion market cap, and without it it is $0.6 and falling.

/not sure why they are falling
//they have all the data on the old people they could possibly want
///and who is going to get a new facebook account these days?  It took this long to see they've peaked?

I like the jargon at your work better - "Extra large fries with that' - 'Its your turn to clean the toilet' etc.

Meh. My work is more "What do you mean I have a cavity?  I mean, I haven't been to the dentist in 15 years, and I brush once/day. And it doesn't hurt". Being a dentist is interesting and frustrating

Has Zucker ever had a completely original idea, even? Facebook was just a new flavor of social media, at a time when a lot of different social media options were already around, that caught on at the outset with the right people. Kudos for Facebook's success, but it wasn't reinventing the wheel. Neither is meta.
