Financing wars is a huge business for banks, actually.

A View to a Kill gets a bad rap.  Sure, Roger Moore was getting up there, but Walken is a great villain, and Grace Jones is a memorable henchwoman (henchperson?).

I like campy Roger Moore bond. But A View to a Kill may be his lowest rated movie. I think some people may dislike Moonraker more but the bad parts on that one, for me, cross into so bad it is good. Not so in View to a Kill.

Should be interesting in a few weeks when the $2B payment is due.

probably all in counterfeit hundreds

honestly tho, it would be stupid to cut them off from making their bond payments as you would be punishing the lenders as well

Hell, don't even send them *those* films.  Only give them the David Niven / Peter Sellers / Woody Allen version of "Casino Royale"!

Moonraker is what B Movies aspire to be. So bad, it's good.

Ive never heard a bad word aid about Grace Jones. People gush over how great she was in AVTAK but for some reason, I never see an example of a scene or anything. Just how vaguely, nebulously, perfect she is? Like, I'm not sure why she stands out from any other Bond cast members.

Say what you will about View to a Kill, it had an awesome theme song and Mega80s intro.

You can bash Moonraker all you want but it was the first Bond movie I saw in a theater and I Loved it!
- humor
- drama
- action
- decent acting still holds up today.
Who cares if the shuttle got 'jacked from the in-flight 747 despite not having a fuel source?  The bad tech was overshadowed by the plentiful eye candy, just what a fourteen y/o boy craves.

We must be about the same age. I have the same fond memories of Moonraker that you do. It was the first bond movie I saw in theater as well

We're not gonna be bailing out any of these banks and business that lose money because of Russian defaults, right? Right?

At least View to Kill has the better intro.

Wat.

You're thinking Citibank should have let Russia keep the money and do something good with it?

Give them new loans? Evil. Accept payments on preexisting loans? Not evil.

Russia doesn't even owe that much, not enough to bankrupt pension funds or anyone important.

So, no.

Maybe, as a Danish political scientist suggested today, it was a diplomatic move. It could kinda give Putin "something", to show. Let him keep face. So that he'll be easier to negotiate with.

Besides, if you let them default, you can't threaten them with it again.

Normal_View 'Moonraker' is bad, but I do love how Drax was written and performed. In some ways, he's perhaps the most convincing Bond villain, because while he's typically mad, vicious, and megalomaniacal, he's also got a much more diminished affect for all that. He comes across as a man who genuinely has no idea how off the rails he really is, and remains supremely good at day-to-day management stuff, and prosecutes it in the same boring way that other senior managers do. It's an odd combination, like a flavour note you can't quite place, and can't quite forget.

Michael Lonsdale was great in, among numerous other things, Day Of The Jackal and Smiley's People.  Two of my all time favorites.  A really great actor.

There's a bit in Moonraker where he's on the phone trying to line up some henchmen.  At one point he pauses and says something like, "Well sure, if you can get him."  Next thing you know, Jaws shows up.  So yeah, very much the hands on management type.

View to a kill is a 2 hour Duran Duran video featuring James Bond and not the other way around.

Hear, hear.  Not to mention - IMHO - the greatest Bond villain of all time, Michael Lonsdale as Sir Hugo Drax:
