If you're not doing anything wrong, you don't have to worry about anything.  Keep downloading, citizen.

Holy Jeezus. Article is impressively vague, but are they saying they track all installed applications on new FF installs?

If I had the option to opt out during initial install then I took it. The article implies that this only affects people that didn't do a custom install and opt out.

Thank goodness Google Chrome would never track every single thing you ever do.

I don't care anymore.
The only way to truly go dark is to toss your phone, never use your own pc or email ever again and only carry cash.
Wait. That still doesn't work.
Like I said, don't care.

fastfxr: Holy Jeezus. Article is impressively vague, but are they saying they track all installed applications on new FF installs?

They're tracking installs, rather than installed applications.

EG you as a support worker download it, then install it on 50 computers.

Or you as a support worker dredge up an ancient copy from a flash drive and install it.

Or you as a Russian Spy download it in America, then trot back to Russia and install it for all your friends/generals.

If I were to guess as to why, I'd suggest they're probably trying to check whether non-tech savvy people are capable yet of downloading and installing it themselves, or whether they're asking their IT friend to do it.

Or whether the IT friends are just installing it and it's not getting used.

So they can work out how to tailor their marketing.

What is Pinners PC?

Still a diehard Opera user.

It only tracks Firefox downloads, not everything you download. Sounds like a lot of fearmongering over nothing.

Dangl1ng: What is Pinners PC?

I believe that would be the PC owned by Pinner, who commented above that he/she doesn't care about being tracked.

Dangl1ng: What is Pinners PC?

The thing you use to download firefox.

Can anyone in this thread tell me why Firefox is now downloading stuff even when I've told it "always ask"? to have the option to open in browser first?

How ironic that I had to click about 20 times for that page to not track me (as far as I know) when I visited it.
