If only some local bard could put their plight into song to stir the hearts of the public.

/ seems fishy in that what does a factory need 4,100acres of land for? I am pretty sure there is a land grab aspect too all of this. Who is getting paid?

Employer parking, inventory parking, transport parking, factory facility, roads, etc.

FTA:  The town of 1,337 property owners - around 60 percent Black...

Oh - I get it now.

White people taking black people's stuff again? In America? Come on now.

If this was even 15 years ago, the State would succeed. They might still, but it's going to be an ugly, public fight.

/ Given my experience in Georgia in these situations, there's a LOT more going on

If you give any white asshole the opportunity to profit by being a racist piece of shiat, he/she will jump on it like Trump Jr. on a line of coke.

Yeah, I thought we stole everything worth taking last time anyways.

What a shiatty article. Did I just miss it, or did crapass Gawker give a reason why the state are trying to bully this town? What's the logic behind them relinquishing their charter?

Well, their protest will be colorful. The Blue Men from Rouge River seek to Greenwood Mason, Tennessee.

If they're going to pull this, shouldn't they at least have some straw man of a reason for justification?

I know better, but... surely an articulate racist could find a way to say "We don't think your kind can govern yous selfs"... because reading between the lines that is the only thing that seems to be coming out of this- they removed the corrupt government (well, that one resigned), and a new one, that just happens to be black, is now running the town, with no suggestions of corruption.

I now feel even older than I did before reading this, wondering if any kids today would even know 1337.

That's a good question but I'm guessing it involves tax revenue and other things related to the Ford plant, on top of the obvious racism.

Click through to the newspaper article this came from and the comptroller gives his reasons in a copy of his letter.

Tl;Dr "you niBONGs don't know how to handle this much money so imma take it to save you from yourselves" is my proudly biased anti-Republicans reading of it.

That's what I thought. Here comes some serious chunk of change and it's given to almost all black folks. Whiteys ain't getting much of it. So... fark you, that's why.

I didn't bother clicking through, but I suspected that much. But I also know rookie politicians can't keep their grift protected and become easy targets.

Did I miss the "logic" used here, or is it just written like shiat?

Did they say WHY the Comptroller was pissed, exactly? I mean, we can assume, but journalists used to make it so you didn't reach for assumptions, now they make statements and you have to guess abiut the the details.

I like the subtle implication on the author's part that losing the "white officials" has been hard on the town. That one casually slipped out on accident. Author probably considers themselves to be as non-racist as they come, too.

Traditionally, there, when those doing the doing are White, and those being done to, Black, they just do it.
What do you mean "justification"?

Not to mention the machines that make vehicles tend to be much larger than the vehicles themselves. Auto plants are BIG!

If you dig more, you get some facts.

The previous local administration (white) stole everything that wasn't nailed down and fled with it.
The current administration (black) tried to pick up the pieces, but has kept dropping them for years.
Local departments (mixed) are fighting a paper war over where those pieces are now.
The locality is in deep debt and needs to figure out how to keep delivering services to over a thousand residents, but has no financial shovel.

Add to this mess a huge influx of potential tax income, a need to support 27,000 future workers, and the higher government giving a billion dollar sweetheart deal to the car company.

Anybody can see that somethin's gotta give.   Every greedy soul in sight is pushing the giant pile of failure to fall his way.

/Yeah, there's racism
//Yeah, there's corrupt local politics
///Yeah, there are sixteen hidden agendas influencing everyone in the game

Oh subby, there's absolutely nothing subtle about that racism at all. Ford should be ashamed, but of course they won't be at all.

Expecting Tennessee to be shamed would be a complete waste of time.

It's not Gawker. It's a PE owned group of websites that has driven off nearly its entire writing staff.

I live here. Grifters flowing in are causing tsunamis when they pile up. Gonna lose the family farm when they raise taxes to pay them all off. Switching from growing cotton to popcorn.

They need a reason that has enough plausible deniability for the "liberal" media to take them at face value when they claim that racism is not their primary motivation to stifle development in a mostly-Black community. A repeat of Tulsa does not have that plausible deniability.

Mumpower, for his part, is dismissive of Mason's leaders, telling the Lookout he doesn't think officials even really know how to run the town, especially with so much investment heading their way.

Well you know how those people are. Give them a little money and they go crazy. Better to give it to us to manage for them. We're just trying to help.

/They're not trying to help
