They are absolutely mammals.  They are just not placental mammals. They are marsupial mammals.  There is a third type called monotremes. Here's a brief primer:

This list is farking WEIRD.

Having RTFA, it is a list of non-domesticated mammals that make acceptable pets. However, most of those are not what I would have chosen.  I would not classify sugar gliders, chinchillas, or hedgehogs as domesticated, and yet they are all better pets than anything on this list.

I found out when I visited Busch Gardens that I'm allergic to kangaroos and wallabies. How the hell can I have an allergy to an animal native to a land literally on the other side of the planet?

Bad is a type of luck.

Mollari: Cats, "completely domesticated", riiiight.

That's a misquote.  It was actually "Cats completely domesticated humans.  Right."

Oh yeah, I want a leprosy carrier as a companion.  And a red neck wallaby?  Does it use chewing tobacco, mate with its relatives, and answer to Cletus?

Seriously, these animals are either nocturnal, solitary, or require lots of space.  My primary consideration for a companion, human or otherwise, is compatibility.  I'm not looking for someone that is seriously high maintenance, that's why cats and dogs are the leading contenders for companions in my world.  Feed em, love em, and they give it right back.  You want high maintenance with little to no reciprocity, marry an idjit.

That list looks oddly specific to Australia and it's neighbors. Sika deer? Ya wanna bet that will be the next popular support animal being hauled onto a commercial flight by a Patcholie reeking Prarie Princess, who is going to the international Chakra Healing Expo over in Area 51.

"The study published in the journal of Frontiers in Veterinary Science excludes dogs, cats, and farm animals since they have been completely domesticated."

Well, that's not the animals' fault. Not fair.
