Things Putin said he would consider an act of war by the US/West:

Giving weapons to Ukraine. Yeah we did that, he didn't do sh*t
Putting sanctions on Russia. Yeah we did that, he didn't do sh*t

So stop being afraid of him and give the jets and other things to Ukraine that it needs to survive.

Turkey had trouble with the Syrian refugees and they've twice the population.
from a refugee standpoint alone gonna need to get like a ton of flights going to canada probably.

If we don't want Ukrainian refugees all over the place, then we need to stop the war. The world has no right to complain about having to deal with the repercussions of the choice not to get more involved. They've chosen this.

Yeah but we can't keep dancing around his lunacy.  Predictability is not only how we get into WWIII here, but also how we lose it.   Putin was also counting incorrectly on Ukraine being over in 72 hours.   Oops.   I think the moment a rocket crosses the border into Poland you flatten every Russian asset in Ukraine and call his bluff.  I'm also betting better than 50/50 chances are that Star Wars is real and gets most of the nukes he tries to launch in he does indeed try to push any buttons (and then, after he's aware he lost, you turn his farking country in a sheet of glass).

Everything we've seen so far regarding the Russians is that they don't put a lot of trust in their military commanders and there's probably a good reason for that.  Putin may want to use nukes but will the military actually pass along all the commands and follow all the procedures to actually launch them?  Every single military commander along the entire chain of command understands what it means to use nuclear weapons.  Are they all willing to follow Putin and go out in a blaze of glory?

The answer is yes. Now, apply this person to the rules of engagement.
Great! Now you can see that he doesn't play by the rules.
All we can do is watch him fark with non-NATO countries while we use strong words and sanctions.
When it gets worse in Ukraine, we'll just yell STOP louder and feed the people more weapons and encouraging words.
At some point Ukrainians may have a bad taste in their mouths for any future 'western assistance' since theyll eventually get overrun.

He seems to be.

The other question is what happens as Putin gets more desperate. Even a sane man can be driven to extremes in desperation.

I hate that half this war is dependent on an accurate assessment of Putin's mental state. Give the dude some edibles so we can all relax for a bit.

Well, nothing else tried seems to work.

We haven't tried turning Moscow into a radioactive crater and crushing the Russian population into the dust though.  If nothing else is working, maybe total annihilation of Russia will work?

What else has not been tried?  I guess Biden could tell the Ukrainians to surrender?  That hasn't been tried yet.

My vote is for the annihilation of Russia.

Russia has a history of revolution more recent and frequent than the US.  I think the goal is to slow grind their economy with a as global an effort as possible and call out the bullshiat early and often in order to bring up the sort of dissent in Russia that maga assholes could only dream of and lead to a dissolution of Putin's government.  Ukraine unfortunately is the grease that those gears will grind on.

Fear. Rule with fear and punishment.

If Putin didn't go through normal planning and logistics channels for this war of his, how can you expect him to follow protocol when he decides he's going to end it all by going nuclear?

It's not about what Putin may try.

It's about does the Russian Federation have the skills, resources, and will to stop Putin from pushing the button.   The US military had to convince China the the US could and would stop Trump if he became trigger happy after losing the election.  It's what back channels are for.

That's a better question than most would realize. As much as I despise the russian "culture" I still Vasili Arkhipov and Stanislav Petrov as planetary heroes. Both men went against orders and refused to launch nuclear weapons likely avoiding WW3. Wonder if we're lucky enough to have a couple of them in the nuclear command structure now.

So all Russian nukes require two key authentication and biometric prints of half a dozen off site generals, and the ancient cleansing ceremonies involving virgin pinguins and the skull of a freshly killed mekelembembe to work?

Or could Putin go to a silo, show his bare chest and get the hardbass enthusiasts to prep the missile and then push the button himself?

What if he only launches one nuke.  Just one.  Not a dozen.  No big problem?

Now, don't get me wrong.  If putin targets NYC and Biden decides that "in the interest of the world, the US will just absorb the one nuke", I ain't gonna cry for NYC.  They should use their power of smug to create a force field around the city and stop the nuke.  Use the power of NYC to disarm the nuke midflight or redirect it.

But, if bare chested Putin shoots just one nuke, that's fine, right?

It may come to that, unfortunately. That's not next weekend, you know. When? Maybe in the Fall? If so, that's another 5 months of this brutality going on. Still doesn't mean the govt is being overthrown, just people looking for scraps.
I've started looking at this from a different angle lately and it's bumming me out. It was much more satisfying to beat the drum and say, "Yeah! Take THOSE sanctions, motherfarker! HURR!!"
Putin will not fold or yield. I think he's in Terminator mode. If that's the case, prepare for the global economy to start tightening the belt for a while.

Then the west either needs to use atomic fusion to stop Putin.  Or full on invasion to stop Putin.  Maybe invasion is good in this case.  We can go in and secure the resources so that the west can take them and make sure Russia cannot profit at the same time.  Seize the gas.  Seize the nickel.  Size all the resources and take them.  World economy problem solved.

If the Russians complain, nuke a city smaller than Moscow.  If they continue to resist, nuke Moscow.  If they keep resisting, eliminate the resistance.  Russia must be made to surrender totally, and without conditions.  Not even the condition of their own self determination at the individual level.  Total surrender.  Every cell in their bodies must be brought to heel.

I'm holding on to the hope that SOMEONE in Putins circle knows there is no exit strategy if NATO is drawn in.  That Russian forces won't just be swept from Ukraine, but Belarus and any other ally along the way.  That it means non-stop aircraft and missile attacks and retaliatory cyber attacks they can only dream of.

One of those people has to have a plan to either avoid this or unseat Putin ASAP to minimize the impact.  Because there will be no place to hide afterwards.  They'll be hunted the rest of their days.

Fleeing the war in Sudan...

So he fled from Sudan to Egypt, to Israel, to Lebanon, to Syria, to Turkey to Georgia to Ukraine to Poland? I use that route because it avoids EU/NATO countries.

This young man doesn't sound much like a "refugee" and more like a world traveler or economic migrant. By no means does that excuse any sort of ill treatment but he hardly fits the same descriptor as war refugees from a war that's literally right next door.
