Not so subtle nod and bob and slobber to Christianity tied to sports in my America?
Shocking, huh?

I mean, i guess.

As an apatheist and non church going unitarian, the tradition of good Friday night fish fries is one of the things that is the way lowest concerns of me of religion seeping into society.   Also I grew up in Central Wisconsin for 10 years of my youth, so, it was always just what's bars did.

Really my first thought was "that's so WI/MN/Northwoods, I'm surprised nobodies used it as a permanent team name for a minor league baseball team or something".  Reminds me of the 90s Arena Football team the Minnesota Fighting Pike.

Wish the Admirals would have kept the cartoon captain as their logo vs what they have now.

Same here in Michigan re: Friday fish fries

My dad, in his 80s, has been to church maybe 10 times in his life, all for funerals/weddings. He still eats fish in some form, every single Friday, lent or not.

Lent is awesome for me, because I get to convince the idiot restaurant owners to let me buy good fish for me to sell as a Friday special, because it sells like absolute crazy, again, not an ultra religious place around here.

It no doubt has some roots in Christian traditions, but you'll find a Friday night fish fry on the menu year round in every bar, mom and pop restaurant, VFW post and supper club in Wisconsin.

/Lake perch (when available) FTW

I used to go to EAA Airventure in Oshkosh every year and each time I'd find a place close to Lake Winnebago. Good times.

Fish fries in Milwaukee, especially during Lent are incredible. They're a HUGE deal. Pretty much every restaurant has a fish fry on Fridays.

Love them.

/had one last night
