Visited Arecibo on my honeymoon.  Before it collapsed.  My marriage, that is.

In addition to the visitor center, Arecibo is home to other active astronomical instruments, such as a 12-meter telescope and a LIDAR facility...

That's pretty much my favorite astronomical instrument.

How is there heavy green plant life under the dish?

My father interviewed for a job there long ago.

A metaphor for our times.

I was kind of hoping humanity's descent would have the decency to hold off until I shuffle off this coil.

DON.MAC: How is there heavy green plant life under the dish?

The dish collapsed a little over two years ago.  I'm guessing that vegetation grows fast in that climate.

"The National Science Foundation owns the facility, which is currently managed by the University of Central Florida... Investigators are still trying to determine the precise cause of cable failures that led to the collapse, according to the NSF."

I think I found the problem, contagious Florida Infrastructure syndrome.

Yeah they don't cut the razor grass on the side of the road until it is over 3 feet tall, it grows so quickly there. I grew up 36.8 miles from PR, in St. Thomas, USVI. Moved there when I was 11, and I think I remember my 7th grade science teacher Ms. Griffo talking about it in the early 1980s. At least one of my teachers did.

He did only get arrested because it was a Disney movie. A Disney, Disney movie, not a Reservoir Dogs Disney movie.
