"You best start believing in ninja legends ... you're in one."

/rapier, despite its prissy looks, beats a katana though -- it is built to block sword blows and quickly retaliate with a fatal poke.

Blockbuster always smelled like the inside of a movie theater: popcorn, candy, and flop sweat.

Which I guess is actually pretty on-brand, considering they rented out movies.

My husband is obsessed with Korean cinema and I have seen so many period pieces (Joseon dynasty I believe) that feature, either directly or indirectly, Japanese pirates. I've watched a lot of Chinese period pieces as well and many involve these pirates as well.

At least ninjas are mammals. Not sure what pirates are. Maybe David Attenburough has a special that will learn me something.

British Navy actually fought a number of sea actions against the Japanese back in the day.  Brits used their standard sabers.  Japs used Samurai swords.  The Samurai swords got beat to hell, sometimes broke in the middle of battle.  British steal did not.

Thing is what makes a Samurai sword impressive is not that it is the best sword ever, it isn't even close, but that the Japanese were able to make a decent sword at all with the poor qaulity iron they had to work with to do so.

Now there are certain engineering advantages of Japanese steel and iron for certain types of projects.  Swords are not one of them.

Can I just point out that a pair of blunderbuss'ed Mosin Nagants would be both epic and the most stupid thing ever.

I want them.
