(NYPost)   Mind-blowing physics-based simulation video reveals how Chinese rocket crashed into the dark side of the moon three days ago. No confirmation if the Pink Floyd record was scratched until satellites fly by   (nypost.com) divider line

FAR SIDE, DAMMIT!  Because the moon rotates as it orbits the earth, there is no dark side.

For those feeling let down by subby's sarcastic headline, I have just the tool for you.

There is no dark side of the moon, really. Matter of fact, it's all dark.

In fact it's all dark

That's a cool simulation.

I can't wait to see who's rocket booster it is.

They asked the pilot how it happened.  He said "I don't know.  I was really drunk at the time."

Wow, they even nailed the physics-based smoke blowing in the lunar wind.

That video was more 'momentary lapse of reason' mind-blowing, not really 2am-altered-headphones-room-is-melting 'dark side of the moon' mind-blowing.

If by "mind blowing" they meant "Rendering on a 486 from 1992", then yes.

The actual video -- much like the quality of journalism from the New York Post -- is laughably bad. The big smoke cloud rising out of the crater like something out of a bugs bunny cartoon did it for me.

Its going to be another week or two before the LROC flies over potential crash sites. Hopefully they are still providing public access to the imager data. Its been many lunar orbital cycles since I last looked at any of it, but I suppose dusting off my Octave/Matlab scripting skills is something I should do anyway.

Mind-blowing video...

Jesus, Subby AND the New York Post are easily impressed. It was cool, but the only thing "blown" was subby's dad, and that's just because I owed him some money.
